Network printer issues.

We've had our computer network guys and our phone guys look into this and no answers.
Small office with 4-5 people using a shared wide format printer. Every two weeks or so, all of us except the front desk girl can't connect. this may last a day or two days. Overnight it will fix itself. very frustrating. It's always the same, no one except front desk will be able to connect. No ping responses, no nothing. then, it starts working again.

sounds like its set her machine as the print server

So the front desk can ping it but the others can't? Are all the other machines on a different switch? Or anything else they have in common?
Is the printer shared directly on the network, or is it shared via the front desk computer?

Grammar and Kork may be on to something. She said she can't ping it either when it acts up but that she "did something with the print program" we use and can get it to work, but can't remember what she did.

Is printer IP static? Are all users mapping to IP of printer, or is it shared out from one pc like kork mentioned?

I know the IP is static. I think it may be shared out from the one PC. I click on "Network" in file explorer and other printers/devices/computers show up but not that one, if that means anything.

Is a reservation set or is it possible one of the other computers is grabbing the same IP?

that crossed my mind but I wouldn't know how to diagnose that.

If the Printer has a static IP then go to control panel, devices and printers, then printers and right click the printer in question. Go to printer properties, port, add port, tcpip, then input the ip of the printer.
Your network guy sucks.

Oh the printer shows up in the list shown in properties/ports tab. with the correct IP address although the port address has a "_5" added to it. not sure why.

If it's shared from her computer, then it may be the connection is dropping when her computer goes into a sleep state.

Someone has tried adding it as an IP printer multiple times.
When you first add it as an IP printer, the IP will look normal (ie: 192.168.1.10, for example). That IP will stay listed until it's specifically removed (even if the printer is deleted). Any subsequent attempts to add a printer at that same IP will result in the subsequent IPs showing as 192.168.1.10_n. If you have admin rights you can just set the printer to the entry without the underscore at the end then remove the other entries, or just remove the entries and leave it at _5.
