I do a ton of video & photo editing for work. Needless to say the memory and power of my two year old MacBook Pro isn’t keeping up. Tired of constantly having to move things over to an external HD, the cloud, or the system slowing down when editing 4K.

Starting to do research and the iMac 27” with some built to order specs seems to be a good option but the price is a little on high side. I’m intrigued by the Mac mini. Any suggestions?

Yes I had a 2012 MacBook Pro some kids broke into my truck and stole (my fault for leaving truck unlocked overnight). I upgraded HDD and Ram was upgradeable to 8 or 16Gb. I loved my Mac. Unfortunately I wasn’t spend $3K+ for a new one that you can’t upgrade anything on it because it all integrated. Best bet? Buy an elcheapo PC and upgrade parts to run it for cheap. Once it slows upgrade more or ditch it for more power and you’d still come out ahead over a new Mac

Apple - Mac Pro Desktop - 16-core - Intel Xeon W - 192GB Memory - 2TB SSD - Silver

This one...ought to handle most any video and photo editing you can throw at it.

(nevermind the cost)

Cool. Thanks.

Another question for the board. Anyone sold plasma for money before? Recommendations?

Since you may have some budgetary restraints, you might consider an Apple-refurbished iMac Pro.

For example, a 2.3ghz 18-core Xeon W with 128gb RAM and 2TB SSD is less than a third of the price of the Mac Pro desktop - and comes with a 27-inch display built in.

Do some research, but I’ve seen people are able to edit 4K on the new M1 MacBook Pro, thing is a beast. This is only available in 13” now, so you’d need a external monitor.

The intel iMacs won’t be out for a year probably.

The new M1 processor is the shite.

Runs circles around the Intel based processor chip. Battery life is incredible too.

Does the Mac Mini have the M1 chip? If so you might want to go that route. I have heard, can't confirm, that as of right now Adobe products do not run with the M1 chip but should soon. If that information is false, I apologize

Virtually all x86 apps run on the M1 chip because of Apple's translation software, including Adobe. I've seen Photoshop CC and Acrobat Pro DC run on an M1 and it was pretty snappy.

It'll run even faster when Adobe recompiles their software to run natively on the M1. I'm guessing with certain codecs Premiere will eventually fly on the M1. Adobe as an organization doesn't instill a ton of confidence though.

Update: Ordered the Mini with the M1 chip, 16GB and 1TB.

Super pumped. Will hopefully make video editing go much smoother.
