A friend told me Android accounts for 60% of the smartphone market in the U.S. I think that's high. Any verifiable numbers on this? T.I.A.

That's probably right, if not on the low side. iOS is on one smartphone brand. Android is on tons.

Thanks. Also wondering how many Andoids are Bluetooth enabled. I'm guessing about 70%.

According to this, Android has 54% and Apple 43% in the US. Apple's share is substantially lower abroad.
iPhone Ownership Reaches All-Time High in United States
Depending on the article, Apple takes 80% to 100+ % of global smartphone profits.

What does this have to do with the OS?
But to answer your questions, it looks like about 60% of smartphone users have Bluetooth "ON".

Not really when you consider a large share of Androids sold are dirt cheap. Especially when you include global numbers. Pretty much every iphone is sold at premium prices.
If you can keep selling it, why shouldn't you? Capitalism is wonderful, especially on this beautiful July 4th.

Actually, it's a well-known fact that's been true for years. Do your homework before casting aspersions, kid. Here, I'll get you started. /apple percent of phone market profits/
Posted on 7/4/17 at 8:40 pm to Spock's Eyebrow
Apple has always dominated in profits because most android phones were always either free, buy on get one etc.

I think it has more to do with Android phones being pretty much indistinguishable, and thus no one is able to command high margins. For whatever reasons, people find much more value in the iPhone, which is why Apple hasn't lost the market like they did with the Mac, that, and the fact that the phones so far can be had for well under a grand. Affordable, mass market item that is still perceived as a premium product with margins to match is the genius of the iPhone. Many if not most expected Apple to lose share bigly over the years, but that's been a very bad bet since inception.

No, if you look at all the poor people all over the world, they aren't using iPhones, nor are they using the newest model Samsung galaxy series. They are using the low budget no name android phone that comes free (or close to it)!with service. That's why android os wins the market share, but loses to Apple in profits.

Of course "the poor all over the world" aren't using iPhones. Where did I say they were?

What makes you think that if a device has a bluetooth radio and software to control the radio that it wouldn't be "enabled"?
If this is some kind of subtle jab at Android it is dumb....you could go a lot of places with the jab but you whiffed here....again that is if this is some kind of Android troll.

Tons of people turn bluetooth off to "conserve battery", not that it really helps.

True....but like you said that doesn't help significantly...similar to the people that worry about turning mobile data off when they are on wifi and wifi off when they are out of wifi range.....these people create a strain on themselves for very minimal gain. Now there are apps that can automate this but the battery drain from the apps themselves cancel out any benefit of the whole operation.
FWIW I didn't take his comment as a comment that the bluetooth was turned off to conserve battery....I took it as some kind of knock against Android.

Turning your cell signal off when you no longer get a signal is probably the only one worth battery saving.
