which is dumb because people will realize pirating is easier and cheaper.

Which will create more people doing it illegally which will then draw the Feds and the DOJ to get even more involved and to start prosecuting and requesting extradition on the bad actors which will kill it eventually....maybe not in my lifetime but eventually.

Intellectual property theft on the video side is way more visible and financially harmful than that on the audio side was.

Get a VPN. Copyright laws are fricking stupid anyways when it comes to music, tv, movies, etc. Streamers were getting shut down on Twitch for DMCA violations playing music in the background while they stream video games. That's just ridiculous.

Why is it ridiculous if that streamer is making money off the stream because of the music that was created and copyrighted by someone else?

Should the person that made that music not be compensated?

They'll never eliminate it unless there is some sort of quantum solution. There will always be a way.

Take satellite piracy. They eventually shut that route down to where you can't pirate it anymore. But then torrenting and IPTV took off. There will always be a way as long as media companies charge obscene prices and use heavy handed tactics.

They're not making money because of the music. They're making money off of their content. The music is background. I do realize royalties are paid for movies and other media. But that's different to me.

Exactly this. They aren’t only playing music, they are playing video games. It’s no different than me filming a video at my house and there be bought and paid for music on in the background. Even if by accident you could technically get a dmca notice over it. It’s a bunch of bullshite

What I stream is illegal.

Tonight I will watch Yellowstone season 2.

I pay for cable so I paid for the Paramount network where the show originally aired. But I was not watching 18 months ago.

It is streaming legally on Peacock for free.

I have Fire TV which does not support the Peacock streaming app.

So I will use the illegal Cinema HD to watch it.

If I want to watch a Discovery show I don't want to have put the Discovery streaming app on my TV so I watch with my illegal app.

The 300 different walled garden to access context is absurd. I'll just use Plex and watch what I want from any network anywhere.

Not to mention their apps are usually giant pieces of shite and barely work. shite, just look at how bad ESPN's streaming app has been for YEARS.

You can’t prove that to me or any property owner.

Generally damages or unlawful benefit must be proven, not the other way around.

If a law does work the other way around, then we should correct that.

No, but common sense will tell you that if they wanted it just for the music....they'd just watch the music video.

and this x1000!!

i've tried to play by the rules but they SUCK. i would absolutely be happy to pay $20-$30 for a decent solution tailored to my needs but there is nothing out there that remotely matches what I like.

therefore, plex.

If you’ve got thousands of people paying to watch people stream a random character in Fortnite dance on the preview screen to the latest hip hop track (aka not included in the game).....common sense tells you they aren’t there for the character dancing.

If they're paying for that, why wouldn't they just buy the track? That makes no sense at all.

It’s not about the consumer buying the track it’s about the streamer paying the royalties for financially benefitting from someone else’s IP.

You haven't explained how you think thousands of people are paying money just to hear a track that's hidden behind some game instead of just buying the track. It doesn't make sense.

It makes perfect sense that it could be used to incentivize a subscription to a stream.

ETA If you believe that people shouldn’t expect to be paid for the use of their intellectual property then I’m sure I’ll never change your mind but it’s a pretty shitty way to be.

I don't think it makes a bit of sense. Do you have any examples to link?

Thankfully the government is addressing these heinous crimes and putting these violent criminals away. Society will be much safer with these people in jail for the next 10 years.
