Looking to spend around $300. I’d like something wireless and runs off batteries or solar but corded (power) is ok just not preferred.
Probably a 4 camera system
IOS supported

If you have good internet, I find the google nest cams are good. They are battery or powered. Only draw back is if it’s on battery, it will only record motion. It’s cloud based as well so no dvr

Don't get Arlo. They're screwing all of their existing customers with EoL bs they'll do to you too.

Don't buy Zozi. Their cameras are mated to the system you buy and once they stop making the cameras, when one craps out, and it will, you cant buy another to replace it. I have an 8 camera Zozi IP system, and it works pretty well, but a camera has died and Zozi confirms, no replacement cameras are available.
Zozi interfaces are clunky and the IOS app is clunky as well. They work, but this is one of the things that you get what ya pay for, IMO. I bought mine when I was caregiving to keep an eye on my mom/uncle when I had to step away from the house a bit.

Is it better to go local storage for video capture on a home security system or pay a monthly/yearly fee for storage ?

I always provide options to my friends/clients so they have the choice. Personally, i have the nvr for local storage.

EZVIZ C3X outdoor WiFi cams are pretty good. No monthly subscription fees. Wired power, continuous recording to microsd card, color night vision using its own IR, spotlight, free AI that detects humans or vehicles, adjustable detection zones, dual lens. Really good app that allows viewing 4 cams simultaneously.
I also have Wyze Cam V3 cams that many people really like for an inexpensive outdoor camera. These EZVIZ cameras are much better in my opinion.
