I am figuring out my company's IT budget for 2021 and I am including a new laptop for me in it. I want the best thing I can get.
I'm currently looking at MSI ws75 with i9 processor and RTX 5000 gpu with 64gb of RAM and 2 TB SSD
Amazon
I've also looked at the Dell Precision 7730
Amazon
Any of you baws have any suggestions? No Macbooks

Does it have to be a laptop? Do you do a lot of high powered stuff away from the office? Do you already have a high end desktop?

Yea for me it needs to be a laptop because I'm an sysadmin and I have to travel to and manage 5 offices in 4 states. I also work at home a lot. I have a transient setup with dual monitors with docking station at each location.
My current setup is Dell Mobile Workstation Precision 7520 with intel i7-7700HQ 7th gen processor, 32GB of RAM, Samsung 1 TB M2 SATA SSD, and NVIDIA Quadro M2200 4GB GPU. It's a pretty heavy laptop. I definitely want something a little lighter.

You dont have a vendor you deal with directly? Seems like you just want to max everything out since it’s for you. Have you at least looked at the Dell XPS models to customize, or any Asus/MSI gaming laptops since those will have more maxed out specs.

Power and lightweight will be hard to combine.
That said, here you go:
Precision 7750 Data Science Workstation
6.65 lbs
Specs: (You can customize them to an extent, so if the drive is too small you can get larger):
processor
Intel Xeon W-10855M (6 Core, 12MB Cache, 2.80 GHz to 5.10 GHz, 45W, vPro)
laptop
Ubuntu Linux 18.04
videocard
NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000 w/16GB GDDR6
memory
64GB, 2x32GB, DDR4 2933MHz ECC Memory
harddrive
M.2 256GB PCIe NVMe Class 40 Solid State Drive
Cost as speced:
$5,449.00
Cost with best stuff selected:
(including 4 2TB NVMe drives & the high end warranty options) - $13,068.33

Ingram Micro and a managed service provider in Jackson are my current vendors but most of those guys are just salesmen and don't know shite.

That Dell Precision would be a good one, although looks to be a little bit overkill on the RAM. Idk why you would need more than 16GB unless you are doing some high quality video editing or using it to host some VMs or something.

I am going for overkill for sure. Haha that's the point. I also assist the engineers with AutoCAD and other surveying applications

Autocad can't take advantage of all the extra cores. It's an antiquated piece of software that only needs an i3. It does like 16g of ram though.

I have that same laptop for work. Same configuration with ram and all. Does yours run very hot (as in does the bottom get very hot if it is sitting on an table)? Also is your fan very noisy? Just curious if that is normal for that laptop or if mine is different.

Maybe I don't want to get by with bare minimum? My company is paying for it so why not get the best I can get? I also do a lot with VMware so having the extra cores will be nice.
