So I am trying out the Brave browser on my IPad. I am using DuckDuckGo as my search engine. I just tried to use the map feature (haircut near me) and a list of nearby places show up, but the map is blank.

I turned on location services for Brave (can’t find DDG in the privacy settings) and restarted the iPad but still no luck.

It seems that Brave uses Apple Maps, so I ensured that location settings were setup correctly.

I can open Apple Maps and search and the map works....

What am I missing?

Thank you,
Roux

That is DuckDuckGo doing that, not Brave. DuckDuckGo doesn’t look at your location if I’m not mistaken.

Ahhh, so there is no way to fix it?

Guess I will just have to use Apple Maps by itself.

Thank you

Duckduckgo can use IP address or you can use a manual address.

OP probably has JavaScript turned off on Brave browser defaults (Block Scripts on/off under settings/brave shields global defaults). I usually use Brave in private mode so not sure if that’s reason i can’t just turn it on for DuckDuckGo site (always using private it forgets this change for me on any site but doesn’t seem to work refreshing DuckDuckGo search after allowing scripts for page like other sites that refresh themselves after change and had to change default settings), but turning JavaScript on in default settings (Block Scripts off) brings up maps and images and other tabs & menus that don’t show with JavaScript turned off (which is how site looks with safari and DuckDuckGo browser).

I prefer to leave JavaScript off and then decide when i need to let it run on Brave. I would have to check later if not always running in private mode would let me have JavaScript turned off in default mode but remember to allow it for DuckDuckGo search site or even allow it once. But for sure even running in Private browsing if i turn JavaScript on in default settings maps options will show either using IP address or ask for a manual address.

Tried on a PC using Brave and Edge, both with DDG as the preferred search engine. Both showed the same list of barbers and had them on the map. In Brave it did warn that more accurate results could be obtained if location was enabled, but the results appeared to be the same as those returned using Edge.

So far, the only issue I have had with Brave is it not being able to load the login page correctly for PenFed.

Microsoft Edge had this same problem too.

I have to use Safari in order to login to our account.

Other than that, it’s been a great experience thus far.

You can also download the 'Dissenter' browser which is the Brave browser with a free speech extension built-in which allows the Dissenter community to comment on any article on the internet. This extension was banned by all of the major browser apps.
