Just dumped DISH. Do Roku, Chromecast and/or Firestick work?

I don't need any sports but would like to get some of the same stuff I watch on Dish.

Are they more for movies than regular tv like news shows and dramas. Also want to have a tv in the RV.

Anything other than those 3 I should check out?

Thanks!

You should have researched all of this BEFORE disconnecting your Dish service.

I have all three, and they have worked great, so far. I haven't been a cord cutter for very long. Each device has a quirk or two that is aggravating, but I can live with it. For instance the Fire TV/Stick doesn't have YouTube TV yet. Amazon and Google are reportedly settling their differences, but nothing has changed yet. Thus the reason I have Fire TV and Roku.

Do your research well before deciding which devices you want. I'll also be honest, after a good 6 months or more, if Spectrum would offer a decent package I'd probably switch back to cable. There are just too many little issues with streaming TV for my liking. I suppose the providers are doing this on purpose to try and drive us back to cable. If I didn't have a wife I'd have an OTA and Netflix and be done with it until football season.

Roku, Chromecast, and firesticks are just hardware devices that allow you to download software to watch media. What you need to figure out is what software you want to use. If you are looking for the cheapest service that has most of the basic cable channels, if look at AT&T watch TV, or Philo tv. Both at right around $20 and have all of the basic channels like that, tnt, HGTV etc. I would also recommend checking out sling orange package with an airplay box hooked up to an antenna to give you locals. This is the setup I am going with once we cancel DirecTV later this month.

As far as which hardware device to use, I have no experience with Chromecast. Between Roku and firestick I prefer firestick. It gives you the ability to sideload apps that have alot of free content. Roku is really good, and seems to be smoother when switching between apps

I’m a cord cutter. I use the Firestick and had to side load Youtube TV on it. It works really well. No need for cable if you ask me.

OTA antenna for local content, there is a ton of free content available over the internet, Roku, fire tv, and chromecast all have acess but varies a little in content. I have Amazon Prime which also has movies, tv shows, and some sports. Chromecast is built in to my smart TV and seems to work faster than my roku, you can also easily stream from your pc to the cc tv.
