I wiil be hooking it up tomorrow. Any cool things outside of Alexa that I can do with it. It's replacing a 2nd Gen Apple TV.

Best thing is now you can use alexa to turn on and off your tv and control your volume on your tv.

Does the cube still pause the tv when you interact with it?

I love the fire cube. Set up is beyond easy as long as you have HDMI connections. But we only really use it to stream content from Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon prime.

I just upgraded as well. I haven't had much time to compare but my favorite part so far is the new remote. The only thing it is missing is an input button.

I had to buy one of those sideclick attachments for the old remote. It worked but was a pain sometimes.

I upgraded a 2nd gen TV to a 4K stick in the bedroom and so far I haven't been able to tell a difference between the 4k stick and the cube.

I use it to control my tv.

On/Off
Switch inputs
Changes channels on my cable box
Ask it to show tv shows/movies on Netflix/Amazon without looking them up.
Plus most of the Alexa stuff like controlling my lights and thermostat and starting my truck in the mornings.

So, I went through the online setup. Very easy. Most of the setup is self-executed by the Cube. Alexa voice for controlling TV is really nice. The icons are large and the remote is tactile and has the most commonly used button.

Some things are intuitive and other things are not.

Examples... controlling volume and navigating with clicks is easier than the Apple.

Con: Amazon apps versus video content is not organized well. Apple TV is much more user friendly in that respect.

I’m only running a simple TV setup but I did notice this device is designed to work out of the box with much more customized approach. If you are using receivers are multiple devices this box is much nicer than Apple TV.

Overall, I’m kinda favoring the Apple because of the navigation. Alexa overall is much smarter than Siri but Siri designed to use with Apple TV is much nicer. I would recommend either box at this time slightly prefer Apple TV but I’m glad I have both and will be more educated on the Amazon Cube the next go around. For the price, I prefer it already if you would have to have multiple devices.

The cube is okay. Could be a lot better IMO. They should allow you to pick a command and then do like a remote macro which Alexa would then perform when given the command.

Add a Logitech Harmony Hub and you are golden.

Yes. It is annoying.

Very. I hope they make a setting to de-feature that or make it configurable.
