iPhone 7+ —> iPhone X

Is it worth upgrading? I’m on that ATT next plan. They are telling me I can straight trade in my 7+ and eliminate what I owe and get the iPhone X. The difference in my bill would be $3 a month. I just lay the taxes. $80-100.
Should I pull the trigger? I’m just worried this 7+ will crap out at some point and they will not give me much in trade.
I ain’t very tech savvy. I mainly text, talk, use internet, the camera is my main camera, and need the google sweet for work related crap. I use some apps but am certainly not using the phone to its full potential.

No, I went to upgrade my wife's phone to a an X and the guy talked me out of it because there are three new phones coming out in September. He told me to at least take a look at them but worst case, the X will come down in price.

Supposedly. Also, I believe I just read an article earlier this week saying that Apple was going BACK to LCD screens after having gone to OLED for the iPhone X. That's confusing to me.
So the 3 new phones would be called... iPhone 9? No, that doesn't make sense. So I think they'll be called the iPhone Xplus, Xs and Xe? But all 3 will have LCD screens. Which puts the iPhone X in a weird predicament... and might also still make it the "best" phone since it's OLED?
I'm all kinda confused by Apple's phone strategy at the moment.

Wasn't the screen one of the reasons the iPhone X was so expensive and thus why sales haven't been as good as they want? Maybe the cost efficiency isn't there for apple to continue making OLED phones to the quality they want to distribute.

Apple is going to have one cheap LCD model. And two OLED models. Unfortunately LG I believe is making their OLED panels this year. LG makes great TVs but their P-OLEDs on phone are awful.
iPhone X has a beautiful Samsung panel. Hopefully Samsung ends up making the next OLED panel otherwise the screen will be a step down.

I think an X is a good idea right now. The slight bump in design and possible loss in display quality (different OLED manufacturers) makes the new phones seem not worth it. We’re plateauing with cell phone tech.

That’s what my brother told me as well. I’m going on a trip in 2 weeks and really want the camera. I also don’t want this phone to crap out mid trip.

The new "iPhone" (I think they're dropping the "X") will be a lot similar, but cheaper as they are *supposedly* using cheaper technology for the display.
Even if they aren't cheaper, the X's will come down quite a bit in price.

I recently went from a 6s to an 8 plus. Took about a week to get used to the size but the battery and camera are MUCH better
ETA: my only complaint is that the plus doesn’t fit into a cup holder while playing golf
