I'm using the Sylvania strips but that's what I did with an extra controller and a cheap strip for one of the bedrooms. The connections didn't line up for 2 of the colors so I rewired them. They are more limited in the range of colors than the real strips but it works.

I saw this as well. Looks easy. i'm going to give it a try . Colored or just white for under counters would save a lot of money

Have any of you tried these wifi light strips from Amazon?

Amazon strip

Are they pretty much the same thing but without the Phillips hub?

What I want is some sort of diffuser to put over the LEDs. I don't like the look of lots of little light paths. I'd rather make those fuse into a glow look.

You should be able to get some frosted panels to cover them.

i'm just going to say that you don't want that.

You don't want wifi for your lights. wifi means you're dependent on the shitty app that comes with the product and with hue you're paying for a rock-solid app, alexa, iHome & google home support, and lights that are controlled locally (via the hub) and recipes in IFTTT and stringify.

The hack hubba showed allows you to take a cheap RGBWW light strip and pair with the hue hub (you can pick these hubs up on ebay all day long for $25 or so) and then you can use the hue ecosystem to actually get some usage out of the lights.

in short, stay far away from this unless you just want a single light strip and you are comfortable with some app built by some chinese developers as your sole way to interface with them.

The app is fine. I own these and they also work great with my Harmony Hub

Yes it works with Alexa. Yes it works locally when the internet is down. It comes with a remote and and there is an rf dongle connected to the power supply (clearly pictured in the Amazon listing).

I haven't tried IFTTT, stringify or open API

I have a set of the amazon strip above but waterproof version works with Alexa. Colors not as good as my hue but work fine for outside cheap lights.

I just got my LED strip in and The controller.

It took me a while to get the controller linked with the Hue Hub but it was still fairly easy.

most main colors look great. No deep purple but still good. I don't have a hue light strip so I hear this is not as perfect of color but I think it works well. especially at the much cheaper price. 40 bucks for a 5 meter strip that can be cut down into the sections you need

you will just need a controller for each individual section that is not connected to the main controller.

Synced up with by Smartthings also.

Here is the Reddit link where I found a lot of information on this.

Reddit link for Light strips

I will be getting the same controller and a then one of the RGB CCT with white and warm white light strips also for my under the cabinet kitchen lights
