Your first picture does not represent win10 since summer of last year, also kinda bullshite to have the start menu open on Windows and not have at a minimum a finder window open on the Mac
Not with win10
They are getting away from the start menu and focusing more on the taskbar and search

Well that’s my point. The start menu was DESIGNED to be open.

No it isn't. Almost everything you need is at the bottom of the screen. I'll bet the typical Mac user rarely needs the Finder, whereas Windows throws that crappy layout in your face and the typical Windows user is stuck with it, unless they know how to reconfigure the whole start screen and run "Powerscripts" and such....

Holy shite you're dumb
The taskbar and dock (not sure exactly what it's called) serve the exact same purpose

So... you are either being obtuse, or you are seriously a moron, the start menu hasn't been a "go-to" for anything since Windows XP (2006 is when Vista came out) - the taskbar at the bottom of Windows is now EXACTLY like the dock on Mac, and actually easier to pin things to it than Macs, because Window's search isn't ganky like Mac OS
Also, you are missing the point, the Start menu doesn't look like your picture anymore:
Also, just a normal desktop, with the taskbar, which EVERYONE uses now, as a comparison to your stupid post:
ETA: I haven't run a single "Powerscript" anything on my computer, I could, but there is no need

I'm talking about all this crap on the screen, doesn't that sprout up one I click the start button? . Are you saying that's not the default Windows 10? Isn't that how Microsoft thinks I should "Start"?

No, my picture above is what happens when you click on start, your picture is out of date

No, default Windows doesn't even call it "start" anymore, it's just the "Windows button menu"

No, they want you to use your taskbar and search

What picture above?
And I see how it goes now, after a decade of shoving crappy look and U/I down their customers throats they give up and go to a more Mac like look.

The dark bar on the bottom, not centered and with an icon menu in the right for running applications... with the chance to minimize running applications.. no, they aren't going with a Mac look, it's still very different.
If you are talking about the background image, I figured I would make that my default background image since you seem simple minded and might actually point out that difference.
Everything is done through search now, and Windows 10 doesn't have shitty spotlight ruining everything, so I would put Win10 WAY ahead of Catalina where I constantly have to reset Spotlight for my customers (which works maybe half the time).

full disk clean and do a clean install of windows 10?
It's always best practice to do this, even though its not always necessary.

Ive got my windows 10 setup where I have no use for the start menu, I don't clutter up my desktop with all the shortcuts and it looks perfect for me.
BTW, for those messing with LINUX, do those version have the option to run it strictly on command line, or is it just desktop versions?

Some distros are strictly command line and some are command line and GUI
All depends on which you wanna use

this isn't true. i don't use scripts and i almost never use my start. all my programs of note are on my taskbars, just like MacOS
it's not "in your face" unless you use it. and you can modify it (without scripts) how you wish
here's how my home pc/tablet is set up (and i only pulled up the start menu to show you what mine looks like. it almost never gets used, though b/c my programs are on the taskbar below. screen shot taken with post in back to show it's in real time)

It's not actually a bad design:
I tell someone they should use "application x" and they search "application x" but it's not installed on their computer. The Bing search actually links them to the download page of the application and they download it and install it... How often is this done? Very little. But it's not a bad design, and in an Enterprise environment I have it turned off for my workers with a very simple group policy.
ETA: the only reason I turn it off for my workers is they can't install things on their computers, so it would be a pointless feature for them
