Last month they failed to reach an agreement to carry regional sport networks, today they send an email saying its going up $10 a month (to $65 for me).
Unreal, time to look around.

Spectrum has regional coverage and allowed me to sign up without a box (which only adds $14/month if needed). I use the Roku and Apple TV to access it and it has regional sports and is just like the regular cable and avoid the box/dvr fees.
That method puts me at $110/month for internet and cable. I might be at a teaser price but it's the internet thats discounted not cable. The big drawback is no dvr option and no ability to pause live tv without a box. It seems like a good value overall having Fox Sports Ohio, Big Ten Network, etc.

Youtube is $65 but also dropped the regional sports channels.

It's getting ridiculous every damn six months these streaming companies keep going up

Cable starting to become a more viable option. Another price hike or two and they are charging the exact same as many cable providers.

quote:Yep, this is to be expected since they don't own the content. The channel and content owners pull the strings, so competition among streaming providers does not follow the typical "law" of capitalism that increased competition benefits consumers. Instead, it just results in more bidders for the same content, which drives prices up.

I still won't go back to cable on principle, because decoupling the content from the infrastructure is a necessary step toward what we as consumers (at least most of us I think) really want - a la carte content.

I have the same issue. Not sure what to do yet. Just got my wife used to the interface.

That's where I unfortunately am - I went to the hassle of streaming (let's face it, it's not as convinient as cable) to pay less, now I'm paying damn near the same to have an inconvinient service. And oh yea, they no longer carry Fox Sports Ohio on top of it.
When I went to Hulu it was $40 a month. Now at $65 it's much less attractive.
ATT Now is the only streaming service that still has regional sports networks and its in their $80 tier. However it includes HBO Max in the price, so pretty comparable to Hulu I guess

I’m sticking with yttv because I like its interface the best

They'd have to be pretty significant hikes. 4 or 5 more hikes like the ones they've been doing would start being comparable to cable.

Your cable still works when the internet goes out too.

Yep, YouTubeTV was $35 bucks when we joined. It's almost double that now.

I need to explore options. I just cancelled Dish, had it for 20 years and went with Hulu plus live TV mainly because it offered the history channel, one we watch a lot, and YTTV didn't.
Now, I'm not sure what to do. I could switch to an ATT one, have ATT cell and fiber, so it might be slightly cheaper, but I think ATT TV is like $80.

Yeah, if I bundled everything together I might be better off going back to regular TV.
We have AT&T cell service and fiber available at our house. I wouldn't be surprised if bundling those together with TV wouldn't be less than what we are paying now.

Hulu's gotta pay for the sponsorships and ads about Baker Mayfield's head on not Baker Mayfield's body. And because that wasn't enough money to spend, also Saquon Berkley's head on not Saquon Barkley's body. Hulu has (some) live sports!

If y'all still want cheap, there is always VidGo. It includes all the ESPNs, SEC Network, B1G Network, FS1, ACC Network, Pac12 Network, and NFL Network.
