Posted by CoyoteSong

I was thinking about using this.
Is this cable?? Or can I just connect to the internet and go?

Technically no, but practically yes. The price for the live tv streamers continues to increase, so compare the price and channels to both competing streamers like YoutubeTV and traditional cable in your area. A lot of times the old cable bundles end up cheaper.

it is a lot like cable because you can't just use it anywhere like other services. When you aren't at your house, you can only access Hulu Live TV via your phone and maybe a tablet. You can't take a Roku, Fire Stick, etc. away from home and use it to watch Hulu Live TV.
YoutubeTV and DirecTV stream will let you watch anywhere however you want.

Why can’t I just log onto Hulu + Live TV at another house?
I don’t understand

You can, BUT if your location isn't the same as your registered zip code, it only lets you log in 4 times before it changes your home location.
The only way around this feature is to be on a VPN. For example, when I go offshore and log in w/ my hulu account, it doesn't warn me about the zip code because our network is running a VPN.
This is from the Hulu site:

If you move, get a new ISP, or need to change your Home network for any reason, you can do so by following the steps outlined above while connected to your new network. Anytime you use Hulu on a living room device connected to a different network, you’ll get an error message stating you’re not at home.
At this point you can choose to update your Home network or watch shows and movies available in Hulu’s streaming library. You can change your Home network up to four times during a 12-month period.

The only plus to Hulu Live is you dont pay for all the boxes cable makes you rent. I have several roku tvs etc. No additional cost. If you want multiple rooms with cable they rape you with charges.

Do they charge you for app usage? I've seen people with Spectrum and DirecTV just stream their cable package from an app on their Roku/Fire TV bypassing the need for cable boxes.

This is quickly changing. Xfinity, for example, now allows you to subscribe to their cable service and only use the Xfinity streaming app. No need to pay for extra boxes and everything, including DVR, is cloud based. So it is a cable service delivered exactly like Hulu Live but it is priced noticeably cheaper than Hulu Live (in my area).

Their app is legit, but their pricing is getting ridiculous compared to just bundling cable
Many thought that streaming would always be cheaper than cable. But these are still companies.
Their goal is profit so as long as people pay they will raise prices. No diff than cable and satellite providers

YouTube TV has a "Family Group". I added my son, who lives in Austin. I live in the DFW area.
Within every three months, I log out of my Google account and temporarily log in to his Google account and open up YouTubeTV. As long as I do that, Google considers he's home. Then, when he uses the service in Austin, YouTubeTV considers him "traveling". You can "travel" for 90 days on the account before you must return to your home and log in.
So, if you have a family member with YTTV then maybe you can strike deal to be added to the Family Group.

Unless you need the ESPN networks including sec network. You don't get that with those.
