I use a ton of data, but i have unlimited gigabit. I almost have more uploading then downloading because i have about 20 people on my plex server.
django's kids have watched coco about 50 times. Im surprised he hasnt asked me to help him build a server for all the kids movies they watch over and over again.

Holy crap. Tell him to install the Plex app and give him a copy.

took half my 1TB data cap for the month it did.
i tried to invite you back..something must have gone wrong.
that disney collection is a godsend for 60s & 70s & 80s classic disney (condorman, hot lead cold feet, 5th ave irregulars, etc) and dvd quality is fine for most of that. i did pick up duplicates that i tried to remove that i have in my HD collection.

well if you have a data cap i would let a bunch of people on your server. cause people streaming on your server counts on your cap.

If it's just you and you aren't downloading a ton you are way fine.
If you were downloading a ton of xbox/ps games a month it could add up quite quickly. Those files are sometimes 100gb a piece.
1 tb = 1000 gb

Got a family of 4. Both kids (teenagers and above) play online games and simultaneously stream and one insists on streaming TV/movies because he claims he gets a better picture. We had to go with unlimited because we were over about 20 days into the month.
If you're a single guy and just streaming movies, you might be ok.

Comcast punishes families

My Comcast is Unlimited Gigabit but my "family" of two is screwed when we expand. Our average per month is 1200 GB
I'll have to check my router but I'm sure the bulk of it is our 4 nest IQ cams

heaven forbid you're a slightly technologically savvy person who sets up a few HD cams around his house for security and has a houseful of computing devices and a couple of streaming services.
COMCAST DECLARES 1TB IS PLENTY FOR YOU AND YOU CAN POLITELY PAY OUT THE arse FOR MORE
Posted on 5/17/18 at 12:32 pm to CAD703X
I pay 79.99 for unlimited. I think I'm getting a pretty fair deal.

So do movie theatres, theme parks, restaurants, insurance companies, doctors and any other business you can think of. So evil!!!!

i guess comcast decided i was having a little 'too much fun' with the internet and thought i should pay more.
how about this: comcast punishes customers with 4K tvs.
fit your little 'free enterprise' zinger?

They don't punish anyone. They charge people based on how much of their product a person uses...kinda like every other business out there.

And if you want to talk about other businesses and how they operate, tell me this -- how many other industries are allowed to sell a product/service that they are unable to provide? ISPs are the only one I can think of. ISPs oversell their capacity by 20, 30, 50X in some cases. Overselling is necessary to keep costs down, I know, because data use is not consistent. But if the users in aggregate begin to max out the ISPs capacity at times, the ISP should bump up their capacity. Simple as that. The absolute LAST thing they should do is charge users extra because the ISP is FAILING to provide the service they sold. Why should they be allowed to continue adding subscribers if they can't even service the ones they have? What does an airline do if a flight is overbooked and you get bumped? You still get to fly AND you will probably get PAID. They definitely wouldn't CHARGE YOU EXTRA FOR FLYING TOO MUCH. That's fricking absurd. Yet here you are defending a similar practice.
It's unbelievable how the ISPs have brainwashed the masses.

And to go into this a little bit...
Data caps are a charge on data transferred, but there is no cost associated with transferring data. There is no product being consumed here. The ISP sells users an allotment of bandwidth capacity (100mbit or whatever), which is also how they buy it. This is a momentary measure of the network's capacity, not an amount of data. This is how bandwidth is sold every step of the way, until it reaches the consumer in certain markets that lack competition.
Regardless, if they want to charge by the byte, fine. Advertise that and sell that. But don't advertise and sell a capacity, and then charge fees for actually using that capacity. That's double-dipping.
Oh, how great it would be for businesses in all industries if they could get away with double-dipping. Imagine if the movie theater could charge you for entering the movie, and then charge you more based on how long your eyes were open or how much you enjoyed the movie! Or if a theme park would charge you to get in the gate, and then charge for each ride you go on! Or if a doctor would charge for their services, and then keep billing you monthly because you continue to live! Or if an insurance company would charge you premiums, and then send you an additional bill whenever they have to actually DO something!
But those businesses can't do that either because they have competition or because it just doesn't make any goddamned sense. Yet people like you are seemingly A-OK with ISPs doing it.
