How far away are we from watches or things like the WHOOP from being able to tell BP

accurately. I got diagnosed with something where my BP not being under control could seriously contribute to my mortality. And I’m only 44. I love a real watch, but have been hoping that the Apple Watch would eventually come out with that feature. They’ve added very nice health features, but no immediate BP check.
I’m on medication which is the main thing, but BP fluctuates, and I’m in a place where I need to check it multiple times a day to be on the safe side. And even the most minimal cuffs are are too cumbersome to carry around all day. Is the technology just not feasible at this time to put on a wearable? And I’m right that if they ever did figure it out, it would take new hardware and not require a simple software upgrade?
Any insights?

US is about the only country that has not signed off on a BP feature the last few years..Several samsung watches have the ability, but not in the US (I know, I keep buying them with that promise and its never approved)

PTT is not very reliable, so it isn't used. I'd say we are quite a ways off unless someone can invent a better way.

I bought a cheap watch on amazon that takes my blood pressure and heart rate.
I don't see bp listed at all on that link

Not sure why BP isn't on there anymore. I bought it in July.

You can easily overdo this and get yourself worked up over nothing. I now check mine first thing in the morning and try to not be concerned about it for the rest of the day. It's perfectly normal for BP to fluctuate throughout the day. You need to be most concerned with BP at rest. The home machines also tend to run high, which can worsen things if you have anxiety about it.

Any watch that can take a ECG reading is capable of reporting blood pressure.. The top and bottom waves are essentially the top and bottom numbers of a blood pressure reading; the problem currently is that it has to be calibrated to you individually to provide the actual numbers of a BP measurement.; Samsung is doing it overseas; apple is working on a cleaner calibration; hopefully releases within the next couple of years on Apple Watch.

It's just not necessary to check your blood pressure throughout the day. Take it the same time every day doing the same thing. Once will do it. Create a log of the daily pressures for your doctor.

Get a dog and walk, lose some weight and eat better. Live longer without medication.

That's really bad advice. He should be on medicine first, then enact lifestyle changes. If he sticks with the lifestyle change, maybe he can get off meds eventually. That way his BP gets under control no matter what.

generally speaking, its actually really good advice...assuming he doesn't have urgently high BP, lifestyle changes is first-line intervention. its much better than masking unhealthy habits by starting a medication you may not need if you just got your shite together. taking BP meds isnt without risk you can have certain electrolytes get too low or high, pressure bottoming out - passing out, falling, kidney damage, interfering with other meds etc.
then if lifestyle changes aren't quite enough add a medicine. if you voluntarily dont try to get your shite together first then yea whatever take meds.

The guy said he had a condition where high BP could kill him. That seems pretty urgent to me.
