I had an Onkyo receiver until recently and didn't care for the app. I was looking at the Yamaha musiccast system and it seems pretty slick. I'm don't have a budget in mind, but I certainly don't need high end equipment. I'm no audiophile and my ears can barely tell the difference b/t most systems. This is what I'm trying to accomplish.

Living Room - a/v receiver, sound bar, sub
kitchen - 2 ceiling speakers
rear porch - couple speakers mounted near the ceiling
master bath - ceiling speaker

My kitchen speakers are kind of optional. my wife would use them to listen to music. We have an open floor plan so on occasion I can see mirroring the living room speakers to be able to hear the tv that's in the living room while watching a game.

Porch speakers & The master bath speaker would simply be for music. I want ceiling mount b/c I have limited counterspace, but I want to be able to control from my phone.

TIA

Why do you need an AVR if you're going sound bar and sub?

What was your Onkyo pushing?

I am about to go full Yamaha w/ MusicCast. If you're going soundbar and sub, get one of Yamaha's soundbars w/ musiccast and then get their 8 channel multizone receiver w/ musiccast for the other rooms.

Does Sonos have an all weather speaker that I can mount on the porch? It wouldn't be exposed to the weather, but not sure if it could hold up outside.

I guess it doesn't have to be. I just assumed that a yamaha receiver would be the brains behind the MusicCast. I don't know enough about it which is why I'm here.

Different house, but it was pushing my sub and four ceiling speakers and separate channel for some rear patio speakers. Not an ideal setup so we barely used it. I have the sub, but the ceiling speakers are at the old house. I have the Onkyo Receiver (TX-NR626), but it would constantly lose network connection and I have to keep resetting the power on it to connect to it via my phone.

Would I still be able to play the same sound in the living room and kitchen zones/channel? I.E. LSU game on in the living room, but I want the kitchen is playing the same audio feed as living room. The goal would be to be able to listen in the kitchen without having to adjust the living room volume so loud to be heard that far away.

I had some all weather speakers before and when I used to pressure wash the back porch, i didn't care if I got the speakers soaked as it didn't have any effect on them. I guess I'd be a little more careful with the Sonos speakers.

I think you can as long as your cable box has an RCA audio out.

LINK is the amp I was talking about.

I think I'm going a different route and linking 2 AVRs for my 4 zones. (I want to send video as well as audio to my zones)

I see these are no longer sold. Have they been replaced with something else?

Anyone have experience with the Sonos Connect/AMP? Someone had suggested to use that and connect it to some all weather speakers outside. However it is a lot more expensive to go that route as opposed to sticking a pair of play 1s outside.

For those pushing SONOS, can he send the cable tv audio throughout the Sonos speaker system as that’s what he wants to do in his kitchen for sports.

(Serious question as I don’t know)

Yes if he has a beam/play base/playbar. He can then play the tv on every speaker. Only issue I can see is if there are delays between the cable drops.
