Within the last 24 hours I've had a couple of suspicious happenings

1. I got an automated text with a one time code for Uber that I didn't request

2. Today I get an email from LEGO about some one time code that was in French

quote:

Thank you for creating such a LEGO® Life account for your child. Here's the code you need to continue:

######

This code will remain valid for 24 hours.

If you do not want to create an account, simply ignore this email.

Thank you not to respond to this email. For questions, please contact customer service

I just changed my email password for starters. Any other measures I should take?

I've gotten that twice this week. Ignore it, they are just phishing for responses.

It's never a bad idea to change your password(s) when you think there might be even a hint of an issue.

What has most likely happened though is that some company whom you filled out a form for has sold your phone # and email address information from that form.

Welcome to the brave, new world of selling information and annoying the bleeding frick out of consumers.

I guess what struck me as odd is I do in fact have an Uber account and the code came from a number that is legit

I just wasn't using it last night because I stayed in

Check your information on one of the leaked information checking sites. I've had similar experiences as you describe, and my info was leaked soon before it started each time. It appeared they (or bots) were going through tons of websites trying to use my leaked credentials.

I get similar emails from netflix and paypal. They are just playing the odds that most people who get those emails also use those services.

Happened to me a month ago. You should be fine. Happens to everyone. Be careful about putting your number on websites though

Sounds like someone is creating accounts with your email, but doesn’t have access to your email to finish registering them. Probably some old boomer that forgot their real email address.
