Google is set to announce the expansion of its Google Fiber internet service to four new cities, The Wall Street Journal reports, with the details of the new rollout coming in the next few days. According to the publication's sources, the The company will start to offer the one-gigabit broadband network in Atlanta, Nashville, and in two cities in North Carolina — Raleigh-Durham, and Charlotte.

I'm surprised Atlanta was chosen. Google's strategy until now was to stick to medium sized cities.

Looks like they are trying to stop the spread of local municipalities with gig with the Nashville pick. Seems to be getting to be a popular way to go in Tennessee right now. If that bill goes through allowing them to spread beyond their borders, it will be game on.

CAD's gonna shite himself, lol

Be nice to add more cities I am willing to move to, as I am unwilling to give up my gig internet after getting it.

yeah its been in Austin for a while now. its weird, Austin now has 3 carriers with 1 GB service- Grande, Google, and AT&T

AT&T fiber 1gb is in dallas, but just in select areas. I got a notice that 150 mb will be in my area by summer and 1 gb by end of the year.

my company pays for my internet so as long as its not $150/$200 im getting the fastest I can get!!

Time Warner as well in Austin.

I found it interesting when Google announced they were coming to Austin magically the big telecommunications companies in Austin decided they will play as well.

I'm curious if all of the other telecommunication companies also offer these speeds in the suburbs of Austin where there is no access to Google Fiber.

I live in Franklin, a suburb of Nashville, and I'm pretty certain that we will not be a part of what Google is offering. I think I will probably still have my shitty Comcast service and same speeds, while 10 miles up the road gets gigabit speed packages.

I'm in the boonies. Two strikes against fiber. Hell I have propane and septic tanks.

Wish Google had announced this before we closed.

I'm in the ATL metro area and fiber won't be anywhere close to where I am.

Hell, I'd love to live in that area. But I also work from home and need a reliable, strong connection. I just hate dealing with Comcast all the time, and there are no other options here so far.

Sucks for you suburbanites. I also heard all the cities like Forest Hill, Oak Hill, Berry Hill, Belle Meade, Goodlettsville, and Ridgetop are not included.

This won't end well.

I live in Bellevue now so it sounds like I might not have been eligible anyway.

They're probably shooting for the hipster condo crowd downtown.

Hopefully. Those condo hipsters are down the street. I'm right near Wedgewood/8th, so hopefully I get hooked up pretty soon. I also expect Comcast/ATT to be knocking at my door here soon.

I also hope we can get it at our office. I'd think we would get it here soon as we are between the airport and Downtown.

ETA: Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if Google Fiber is faster than Chattanooga's internet services?
