I went with the IPhone 12 from a pixel 2 xl because of the reviews on the new pixels

I've been playing around with my new 5 for a few hours and it kicks arse. Coming from a 2XL there was a learning curve but it didn't take long to figure it out. I really like the smaller size.

Yeah I've mostly read very good reviews of the 5. It's been addressed but I think there's some confusion in that there is a Pixel 4, 4a, 4a 5G, and then the 5. The non-XL 4 was gargabe, but the Pixel 4a 5G is apparently a really good, well priced upper mid-range phone.

Was just talking to a friend with the exact same history and he said the new UI is weird. Are the 3 bottom buttons actually gone for good? If so, no bueno, IMO.

That isn't new. Android has had full sharing capabilities over NFC for many years. Long before apple did it.
It was just introduced in August.

The UI doesn't have anything to do with the phone. All pixels have the same UI.

Of course you can adjust the gestures to 1,2, or 3 buttons but 1 button is definitely the best once you get used to it.

That's not what he's saying.

No they seem really intent on pushing the display all the way to the edges. Even the front camera is embedded within the display. But I figured out all the gestures.
The display is actually bigger than my XL, slightly, although the overall phone is smaller.
I got rid of all the extraneous stuff we hate, like the quick launch icons and search field in the app tray

He had already put 11 on his 2XL and is claiming that there is actually some hardware thing going here with the 5.

There was tutorial on the gestures right when I booted it up. Did that and figured it out from there. Wasn't too difficult.

What does this mean? You have to use gestures instead of having the 3 soft buttons?

I've been thinking this may be more useful to me. I've never had a phone with it but my Pixel 2 charge port is loose and now I want that feature.

The bedside dock is very nice with my 4.

My 4 is amazing. Tried to get excited for the 5 but couldn't find any particular reason to upgrade.

The 3 button design IS a gesture.

You can choose from 1 button, 2 button, or 3 button gestures in the gestures setting.

Gestures does not mean waving your arm in front of the phone. The 5 doesn't even have project soli.

Battery life on the new 5 is ridiculously good and supposedly it will get better after a week or so of use. I wish the screen was a tab bit bigger since I was coming from the 3XL.
