To each their own, I find the rears of the Pixel to be quite ugly.
And I'll take stereo speakers with a smaller front facing speaker like the S9 has and sacrifice a bit of quality for a superior in every way design.

As someone who uses a case regardless of the phone the rear could be pink and it would have no affect on my purchasing decision. As long as the fingerprint is ergonomically correct, which it is on the pixel.
But agree it's a matter of opinion. I'd much rather give up 10% of screen ratio for superior speakers when the screen is already plenty big enough.

Yep, I'm the opposite. I want zero bezel at all, no notch just full beautiful screen on the front and slim/lightweight.
The new Note 9 is almost perfect in that sense.

You should be picky imo, there are tons of options and all are pretty good these days.
Note 9's huge 4000mAh battery is going to be tempting but I want to wait for 2019.

+ camera and I'm good..I maybe talk on it twice a week versus text or email and other than that wouldn't need speakers

Every phone is going to have a quality enough camera for me these days. I'm just tired of scrappy batteries and shite you can't remove from the phone without an act of congress

but what about speakers?
Samsung style. Stereo speakers using the top ear piece as a speaker. Don't have to sacrifice anything with the screen.
Are the Galaxy S9-style stereo speakers better than front-facing speakers?

They might not sound quite as good, but they're less intrusive to the phone's overall design.
I'm personally a big fan of the newer dual speaker design. I love the utility of a big screen, but I still want a phone that fits comfortably in my hand and pocket, so a phone with minimal bezels is ideal. That's why I carry phones like the Galaxy S9 and iPhone X — both of which utilize the earpiece/speaker grill combo. Sure, it isn't as loud or full-sounding as a pair of true front-firing speakers, but it's still a hell of a lot better than something like the Galaxy S8.
This describes me perfectly.

I was thinking about getting the Pixel 3xl but now I'm leaning towards waiting for the S10 to come out. Here is a concept of what they are thinking its going to be.

Yeah I'm waiting for the S10 as well, it's going to be insane. People give Samsung shite still but their designs are the best in the business with the best screen in the business and they've done a lot better with touchwiz/bloat the last year or so.
They are supposedly making an X version that will be foldable and cost 2 grand.

you going with samsung over google?
Posted on 7/31/18 at 3:32 pm to CAD703X
Yes.
Notch is an instant no buy and I'm tired of Google's lack of innovation and lackluster design.
Bring back the Nexus line if they want me back any time soon.

This doesn't come close to making up for the shitty software experience you have on Samsung's versus the impeccable experience on Google devices.

Meh, I root mine so it doesn't really matter. Prefer it more since I have a bunch of Samsung electronics that all work through my phone.

isn't samsung making it more and more difficult to do this?
eta i recently told a friend i'd root their samsung but when i looked at the hoops you had to jump through first i said 'frick it' and told them i couldn't do it. no way i want to be on the hook for supporting their phone after that.

Not if you buy the international version, they have unlocked bootloaders and the Exynos CPU that is quite a bit better than Snapdragon so it's win win.

Google has lacked in design ever since the Nexus line died and I hate it.
That's because Google didn't do the hardware design on nexus devices. LG, Motorola, Huawei, etc. did.
