Google has been infamous for removing popular services. I'm still traumatized by Google Reader being taken away.

No product mentioned in this thread is obsolete.

That's some damn strong sales.

I love chromecast. I have an extra in my suitcase and I rarely travel as of late. Always good to have.

What is the advantage of a Chromecast over one of the small Roku options?

For whatever reason, I always felt Chromecast was easier to use and just worked better. Could have been user error with the two Rokus I had. I always had remote issues with the Rokus. My newest Chromecast works with the TV remote. Maybe Roku does that too now-it's been a while.

And for us, the Chromecasts come up on the google home app, so it's easier for our household to be uniform and send stuff wherever we want in the house.

This feels more like a veiled product segmentation than it does discounting. Wouldn’t surprise me if Chromecast sales were starting to slump. So, you kill the Chromecast and launch a “superior” Google TV Streamer device that requires separate cabling. A year or so later, release a “Travel Google TV Streamer” in a smaller size/weight that won’t snap a USB connector or integrate a short/retractable cable.

I like chromecast with google TV but Rokus are a way better product as far as reliability, stability and speed.

This is why I never buy any Google or Microsoft branded product (other than an Xbox). They're notorious for discontinuing them.

I really don't understand this. They keep working.
