Looking for at least a reliable brand. Something that just cools a single 400sqft room.

Explain what this is?

Those floor models will have to be exhausted out to transfer the heat out of the room, typically though a window.

Unless I am not understanding what you are asking for.

I researched them and found that one's with dual hose kits perform better. Who knows which one is best. They all seem about the same.

This is what I use in my computer room/office at home. The Central A/C can't keep up with all the equipment running. It's not annoyingly loud on high, on low its video conference friendly. But still has to have a place to dump heat, exhausting outside through a narrow window.

I have this same problem. I’m afraid how trashy the exhaust will look though, my office window faces the neighborhood street. It would help out so much though, the room gets stupid hot.

If it's ground floor, put a potted plant or something in front of the window to block the sight of the vent.

Yeah thought about putting a bench or something that could block it.

I'm looking for the same. The front room in our house runs warmer and it's my office and TV room so I spend a lot of time in it.

A have been trying to find a small floor model that has a reduced footprint in the window for exhaust.

Do you have to empty a condensate pan?

If so, how often?

This. My office/computer room was never thoroughly cooled by the central A/C except in cooler months.

Just putting this out there, but in my computer room I added a tower fan. The air circulation helped distribute the A/C better and made the room feel cooler.

They're inexpensive and an easy thing to try before adding a portable A/C unit.

Alot of those cook the water off up to a certain amount through heat inside of the unit then blow it out the exhaust.

Have you tried partially/fully closing off other vents in the house? I had that issue with my front two rooms, not that they wouldn’t blow cold, but that the rooms before them dumped so much cold air that the thermostat shut off. Made a few adjustments on how open other vents were, and now everything runs much more evenly.

Working on that and thanks. Also just met an HVAC guy at Bonita Dog beach and he suggested turning ceiling fans off as they are bringing warmer air down.

And it may do more harm than good, but a lot of ceiling fans have a switch to reverse direction. You’re still moving around the air, but not necessarily yanking it down on you.

Agreed. There's an HVAC guy coming out this week. I'm hoping he can balance the airflow in the house better as that seems to be the issue. The other thing it could be is that there is an attic/crawl space above the front of the house. I'm thinking that space may not be properly insulated and the heat is worse as a result.

I'll be out of town on business and my wife will have to deal with it.
