Looking to get a small waterproof type camera that I can throw on the back of my boat to record ski sessions and stuff. The go pros looked nice and had the perfect mounts I could use for specific locations on my boat. Contours looked good as well. I basically just need something that is water proof, had decently good wide viewing angles.

I don't know much about cameras so Id appreciate some input. I've noticed these cameras don't have screens on the back so you can't really tell if you are getting the shot you want. Has this cause any users problems?

I have a Go Pro and love it.
One thing you might want to consider is that now that the Hero4 is out, you may be able to get a nice deal on a Hero3 model

Go pro can't zoom, so video of a skier from the back of a boat might suck

Sony also makes a good action cam. LINK

They also offer a mini version which doesn't have a waterproof housing, so I wouldn't dive with it but it is splashproof. LINK

i have a Contour Roam2. I like it. Its super easy to use, just make sure you get a class 10 SD card. I have a class 4 and it's not fast enough to press record with out turning the camera on first, which you are supposed to be able to do.

i went with the Contour over the GoPro because of the built in enviro-protection. The GoPro requires a case to be waterproof. The contour only does if you want to go past 3ft underwater. I've used mine snow boarding and just swimming in a pool. It does well.
my friend had a GoPro skiing. I would say video quality was about equal.

look into the features. both offer linking to cell phone to watch what you are currently recording. you can also adjust your settings that way as well. you really can't go wrong with either. go with which ever one you like.
