This is the setup I'm planning on going with:

Case: NZXT S340
CPU: Intel i7-8700K
GPU:EVGA GeForce GTX 1080ti SC2
Motherboard: ASUS Prime Z370-A
CPU Cooler: EVGA CLC 120 Liquid/Water CPU Cooler
Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws 16GB DDR4 2400
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 2TB
SSD: WD Blue 500GB
OS: Windows 10

Any thoughts or comments are welcome!!

Ryzen 2700 and then take that extra savings and get yourself 32 GB of Ram and a Samsung ssd instead.

You will see beast mode performance. The intel fanboys will say you’re dumb. But objectively the performance difference is negligible

Ryzen has unbeatable value. Spend an hour watching objective YouTube reviews. You will buy a ryzen.

8700k is not much different in price. Ryzen is great for multitasking but not as good for gaming.

Would only save him like $50 good luck getting any of those latter two for that price

Plus the performance will be almost negligible for gaming if he got a "better" SSD like a 960 pro.

Edit: And for only gaming, the 8700K is still the better processor

What the hell do you need 32 GB of Ram for? Its a gaming PC...

16 GB is more than enough, and 8 GB is probably fine for most games.

An SSD also doesn't give you much for gaming, unless you care about game load times.

And yes, Ryzen has come a long way, but an 8700k is the best strictly gaming CPU on the market.

I have a 1tb SSD in my system and that's it. Best way to do it IMO

Shouldn't have any problem running any game with it. But I don't think gaming is pushing the computer industry much now.

I would only get a 1080ti if you plan on doing full 4k gaming and have a great monitor.

That setup is more than enough to play pretty much any game out there with all the graphics turned up.

Cheapest 1tb 2.5" drive is $177.99 and the cheapest M.2 is $219.89. Good bit more to spend for almost zero performance increase.

Spending more for NVMe? Sure, but I still wouldn't do it since it's pretty negligible for gaming as well for the very big price difference
