My family is in the market for a new computer, as the wife's Macbook is about 14 years old. We are looking at options for something that can handle business use, entry level graphic design, very light, entry level game playing, etc.. as a family computer. Wife doesn't want to go back with a Macbook.

There are quite a few options out there and I don't know much about processors, graphics cards, etc.. All I know is my work laptop is a Dell Latitude 5500, with 16 gb of RAM and an 8th gen Intel Core i5 processor, and has never let me down with heavy multi-tasking use. Not sure where to go from there.

We want a bigger screen with a numerical key pad, minimum 16 inches, and aren't really prioritizing touch screen / OLED / high than 1080p. A 2-1 touch screen would be nice, but the price jumps considerably for that feature.

The Samsung Galaxy Book is appealing at 16 inches, and HP has a 17.3 inch model that checks all the boxes from what I can tell. Anyone have any experience with the Galaxy book, or have an opinion on what the better option would be? I don't shop for computers through work since they are provided by my company, and as stated my wife's computer is 14 years old, so I'm out of the game on this.

Any opinions or guidance is geatly appreciated.

Just from experience, a Lenovo or a Dell would be best bet. 9 keys bump price up a bit. Inspiron is the Dell consumer grade product so grab that if cost is a concern. I’d go to either site and use the configuration tools to spec and price. Being in IT I just don’t like gambling on lower tier equipment, but that’s not to say you won’t get the deal you want going with the non traditional computer companies.

I'm currently laptop shopping I can answer any questions or give suggestions.

So you want: reliability, and a number pad? Standard specs?

This HP at Best Buy would put you towards the top of consumer functionality for $1050. It's 17", which is big for me but seems like it fits what you want. Has a number pad.

16" Yoga last last gen and more mid stats, but its' $550 and should be fine.

I can look for more. The new Core Ultra processors are supposed to be a game changer and there are a lot of discounts on them.
