You can't - it's unlimited. There are file size restrictions but they're pretty generous.

back on topic; is this the first time google has directly targeted apple in an ad?
i know samsung, etc have done it, but this is strictly google this time.
are we about to see an escalation of 'negative ads' between apple & google now?
i mean google could pre-empt the whole thing by saying 'our apps are cross platform'

there's an option in google photos that asks you if you want to 'free up space' on your phone and as long as you have WIFI or data, you never even notice it removed the files from your device since they show up in google photos.
i dont know why they dont do a better job of championing the UNLIMITED PRIVATE YOUTUBE-ESQUE unlimited 4K video storage (assuming your phone can do 4K video)! thats even more important to me than the unlimited photo storage.

My understanding is that Google Photos uploads videos and pics to the cloud automatically. Then at the touch of a button it "Frees up space" by deleting pics and vids that are already stored in the cloud.

Thanks. I hadnt noticed this in the settings before. I just freed up 776 MB.

i think it also automatically shows up in the form of a dialog box aka what the poster above said if your phone starts to run low on space.

gotcha. I'm not even close on storage but it's a good feature to know about.
I really wish the teenager in our house used android. Her iphone is so full that it doesnt even work properly. I'm constantly moving her pictures/videos over to google photos/drive and then deleting everything to let her start over.

just install google photos on her iphone and toggle 'auto sync' on.
all her photos and videos are backed up and you can delete it all on her phone.

the whole google docs/cloud/photos/video/sharing is sick.
i use it more than microsoft most of the time because the collaboration and sharing is more important than 'feature-itis' as the basic docs do virtually everything a layman would need it for.
more complex/pivot tables/etc is still in the realm of office 2015 but the day-to-day stuff is waaaaay better using google docs/drive.
