If I have an Xbox one, is this something that would still be useful?

Can't you just connect the Amazon Fire TV to the Xbox One and use the Xbox as a passthrough to the Amazon Fire TV?

So you can have only the xboxone remote instead of two? Don't have one so not sure if has the ability to control devices like some smart TVs, though most of those communicate through USB.

But why

Because I've completely cut the cord and I'd like 1 central "hub" where I can go and:
1) Watch OTA TV + get 30 mins DVR capability
2) Use extended devices such as Amazon Fire TV
3) Or just directly run apps like music or Netflix

Right now I can do those but constantly have to swap inputs, etc.

I thought xbox never actually got this feature?

I have an Xbone, and a FireTV that I use specifically for Vue. If the XBone can act as a DVR with the addition of the Tuner, I wouldn't need to buy a Tablo

Well, technically it hasn't YET. Not a full on DVR. However, it does store up to 30 minutes of the TV you've last watched. So for me, that's all I need really when I wanna go back and rewind a football game to see the last play or whatever.

This is what I want to do as well, however, is your Fire TV hooked into your Xbox One or separate?

How do you access the FireTV through the Xbox One, if that's even possible?

That is very good to know. I'll probably be ordering a tuner.

And I just have them all on separate inputs now. I have a 4k TV and I will watch netflix and Amazon content in 4k, which the XBone won't pass through.

And I was already switching inputs for the OTA signal anyway so I never bothered. I'm sure you can pass through the video signal of the FireTV, but I'm not sure how the controller will work. The FireTV doesn't use IR so you would need CEC to work right, and I don't even know if the XBone has CEC. Or a universal remote compatible with the FireTV

Yea I have a Harmony Ultimate One remote with the little Bluetooth box, so I should be ok on the remote part.
Ah, I see, you have an Xbox One (original). I was definitely thinking about getting the Xbox One S, which should pass through 4k. Even though I don't have a 4k TV or a 4k ready receiver.

If you need it for amazon access the fire tv box is great, but after purchasing one of these everyone in my house that has the amazon box wants it swapped for this. The mouse pad, real keyboard, and ease of browsing the web on it make it much better in my opinion.

In that price range I am actually looking at picking this one up because it does 5G wifi and has twice the RAM and flash memory

it really is a nice little box and the keyboard is nice. I gave mine to my son because i have the Nvidia Shield now. Still the best box i've ever seen so far.
