gotcha. i misunderstood the comments in amazon about them

quote:

he GURADESIGN Fiberglass Running Electrical Wire Cable Glow Rods emit a bright yellow glow to help locate and differentiate the rods from wires easily.

i think that just means its a bright color, not glow-in-the-dark.

They do glow if you expose them to light.

Campos in Metairie should be able to get that handled for you. I see them on the Northshore all the time.

Why mesh?

I ran about 2 dozen drops throught my house a few years ago. Went with APs instead of mesh and dont regret it.

You can get a tp link 1gb 8 port poe switch and 2 wifi 6 Ax5400 (with 2.5 capabilities for future proofing) for the price of two x55 mesh routers.

Tp link even offers a free software version of their omada controller that you can use to manage your network. Its pretty sweet for the nerds like me.

I mean.. they do actually make glow in the dark fish tapes. I have one that came from Home Depot.

LINK

Milwaukee makes them as well. They are thicker than a regular fish tape, less flexible, and generally shorter. There are probably a lot of situations where the rods are more useful. But they definitely exist.

Installs never included running cable in walls though.

No. They are 6 foot flexible rods that can screw together for fishing cable down walls, across attics, etc.

We had a 4-piece 12 footer we kept in the van, called them Fish Sticks. But I think the brand name was indeed Glo-Rod though it didn't actually glow. Ive ran miles of cat5/6 with them. I might even still have some in my basement.

Invest in a magnepull. I work in Telcom, and that thing is a lifesaver. For mine, I drill a 3/4” hole in the top plate. Drop down the magnetic bullet. Then grab the bullet on the wall using the roller magnet that’s included. It’s about a $100 setup, but it’ll get my fat arse out of the attic quicker, so it’s worth every penny.

Oh, and sorry. I’m outside of BR and not looking for side work anyway.

Go with 600mhz cat6 for now.

Hell, Cat5e will get multi-gig speeds in a household run. Unless you live in a mansion with 1K ft. cable runs, Cat5e will more than meet anyone’s needs.
