Does Waze Have A Sense Of Humor?

Coming down the highway I know I am to take a left at a four way stop. One half mile from the stop waze tells me to turn right and wants me to go 1 mile and turn left. Then take the next left and go to four way stop and go straight.
I have installed google maps will give it a try.

Google owns Waze.
I've found that many times GPS apps will calculate the quickest way to get back on the previous route as opposed to do a full route recalculate.

Speaking of that does anyone know of an IOS traffic map that uses google/waze? It's data is a great combination of monitored traffic and public reporting but reading traffic in google maps is not a great way to get a quick update. I use totaltraffic for that but they only report major streets and highways.

Waze blows Google maps away. It's really not even close.

I find that many times Google Maps will avoid telling me to take an unprotected left turn, unless it's the only option. That may have been what happened here, were the lefts that it wanted you to take at a stoplight with a protected arrow?

I went back to Google Maps. I don't like that Waze doesn't tell me which lane to be in (at least I don't think), and it frequently puts me in situations where I'm making a really difficult turn or something.
Waze gives me options Google won't (I know G owns it), and I think it's probably as fast or faster 80% of the time. But, it also will take some crazy routes and unpredictably put you in a shitty spot, so I only use it when I'm trying to figure out what has gone wrong ahead.

99% of the time it sends you on a crazy route it is because it is getting you around some sort of traffic jam. It also places a high value on avoiding stop lights. If the normal route has 10 stop lights and a "crazy route" only has 5 it will send you on the crazy route.
I use these a lot. Every once in a while I ignore one of the crazy routes and I usually end up regretting it. I have learned over time to trust waze.

I still use Waze but I have noticed this more and more lately. I have thought about trying Google and Apple Maps again since it has been a while.

Does Waze use google maps data for street and road traffic and slow downs? I did not think it did. I don't always take the highway and Google Maps usually is accurate at the street level with any congestion. I think it taps into the DOTD with the measurements that detect has fast traffic is flowing.

They use something for this. I am not sure what it is, but it's far more accurate than google maps at avoiding slow downs. I believe it may just be data from other waze users.

I live in Atlanta so it is constantly trying to get me around jams. The problem is that I'll take one, then find myself in a right hand turn only lane where the left hand lane traffic starts 300 yards behind me at the time I figure out what is going on. I may just not be invested enough in Waze, but I find it difficult to tell how much time taking a particular route is going to save me, as opposed to Google Maps.
More recently, I also find myself going where Waze takes me, then shortly after committing to this fricked up route, I get the "traffic is building up ahead" notice and my route increases by 8 minutes.
I toy with it still, but I just can't commit. I wish they'd adopt the lane thing and make the route choice times much more clear. I'd enjoy that a lot more than the cartoonish interface and new voiceovers.

Well, there's your problem.

Yeah, I'm not dealing with traffic anything near what Atlanta experiences. I'm sure that type of clusterfrick opens up a whole new host of problems for every GPS.

Google also uses location data from Android phones to analyze traffic.

is all that stuff built into Waze now?
Posted on 6/6/17 at 11:56 am to t00f
waze was first with crowd-sourced traffic data. it literally uses the speed of every car on the road running the app to determine slow downs and doesn't rely on data from other sources (at least it used to not) and its the other way around..google has started using this crowd-sourced traffic data to improve maps.
it doesnt matter. eventually they'll become one app but for now, waze wins for traffic and cops.

Matters to me, I can't rely on crowdsourcing to determine whether or not to take certain streets. When I go I fire up Google Maps and get detail. I was just hoping something better than TotalTraffic was out there that uses aggregated data from all these sources mentioned.
I would hope Google does combine the sources, would be awesome.
Yeah Waze does win for cops, don't agree for traffic.

Long time Waze user here. I generally think the app is shite but will use it over anything as long as it's the only one identifying cops.

It'll take you around the block to avoid a left turn but other than that it's the best at what it does. I keep it on in the background while I watch a movie when on the road now. I frequently drive between baton rouge and lake Charles.
