Yeah, I was hoping they would add the Direct Tv app to the older apple tv, but no dice. I am waiting on the new one to get here. I was able to mirror it from the my ipad to the apple tv last night though.

So far, PS Vue remains my leader. Missing History Channel and Comedy Central, but it has my locals (including CBS) as well as NFL Network, NBA TV, Red Zone (as an option), all the other sports channels I could want, access to all the video apps I want and I can run five simultaneous streams.

And it's not fricking AT&T, which is even better!

At what cost?

On the Amazon Fire TV, my daughter watched some snail movie last night and I *think* it was DD5.1. However, live tv is still stereo. Not 100% on that, need to confirm.

Does anyone think that they may up the # of streams possible in the near future?

I doubt it in the near term. Eventually we will be a streaming company, around 2020. If the streams increase to 4 it would cannibalize too many existing customers. As Uverse is continually phased out it may increase though.

I rarely watch live TV other than news/live events type things. Rest is DVR but could make that VOD...

Let's say my daughter is watching something through the Disney Jr app and not the DirecTV Now app....does that count as a stream?

My guess is they take the approach of the model they have now of fees per boxes. Each additional stream is $5 or something like that.

Got my Apple TV and dreaming flawlessly now... this seems great for $35. I only hope they increase the VOD library.

What's the Best way to access local channels??

I would say that it depends on where you live relative to where your local broadcast stations are located. My brother-in-law hasn't had cable for several years and just catches the locals over the air with an antenna he built using wood, wire and aluminum foil. His reception is perfect.

It was good in theory but I never used Vue's DVR

Best use i got out of it was more of an "on demand" for my kid to pick his shows out.

Liking directv now though

You need an OTA antenna to bring in the local digital signal.

If I go back to cord cutting and keep directv now I will get this too:

Tablo is a next-generation DVR that plugs into a digital TV antenna to capture free, local HDTV broadcast programs including news and sports within the US and Canada. Unlike traditional DVRs that are connected to one TV, Tablo does not feature an HDMI connection. Tablo connects to your home network using WiFi or Ethernet to stream content to any connected device inside your home or anywhere you have internet.

There is an app for various streamers like Apple TV and amazon TV to access live and DVR's content.

This is the only hangup I have to doing this whole cord cutting stuff. I need to research more options on antennas and see what will work in my location. Id like one in my attic if all possible.

But seeing this thread has my wheels spinning and I might just buy this box and figure it out as I go.

I found this that tells you the local channels you can get and what color type of antenna to needed based off your address. Not sure how reliable this site is.
