To be fair that isn’t entirely accurate. You Can still watch a lot of NFL on college football games on free OTA basic cable, but you miss out on ESPN.

Best decision I ever made was to cut cable

Ok, I realize that there are ways to watch everything for free. But thats not what I was replying to in the OP. He stated he was thinking about sling TV. I am just letting him know that you can get DirecTV and internet for around the same price as sling TV.
When I cut the cord I got rid of everything. We had Netflix and my parents login for ESPN. I didn't mind it, but it is no where near as convenient as having a cable/satellite provider. Just switching between games to see what's going on for instance.
And I know you are going to reply with something about how it's not that bad, but I pay $80/month for DirecTV and internet, with all the fees and crap included. Also, got a $200 gift card for signing up. That is worth it to me to be able to switch channels easily and to not have to give a 10 minute course on how our "streaming tv" works every time we had a baby sitter.

You’ve got Sling, PlayStation Vue, DirecTV Now, and Hulu Live TV. They all have 7 day free trials so try them all and see how it goes. This is a situation where you can be your own best source to figure out what works best for you personally.
With that said I did free week trials for the first 3 listed. Sling to me was unreliable. I went with PS Vue because it has a function similar to DVR and was $15 cheaper than DTV now (DTV now is beta testing a DVR function). Never had any buffering issues at all.
I recently switched to DirecTV Now when PS Vue raised their prices to DTV’s and they had a promotion to prepay for 4 months and you get a free 4K Apple TV. I also have att cellphone which cuts $15/month and gives me free hbo. I have buffering issues maybe a couple of times a week. I don’t get frustrated but the wife does sometimes. I prefer DTV now’s Guide over ps Vue though.
An HD antenna for OTA local channels is a must though. I have just a small mohu leaf hanging by suction cups behind the blinds in a window and pick up stations 50 miles away.
Good luck, cutting cable was the best decision I ever made. Went from paying $180/mo to $75/mo (includes internet and streaming service).

Why would you need any of that? Most channels have their own apps and I watch whatever show I want to watch from their app.

Why would I need any of what?
And if cutting cable is the best decision you have ever made, you must be extremely young, single, with no kids or responsibilities haha.
I make like 10 decision a day that effect my life way more than saving $40 bucks a month on DirecTV.

Directv now is great
Ive trid all the streaming services but this is by far the best bang for your buck. The only downside is you can only stream two devices at the same time. So i just added netflix for an extra 12 bucks. about 48 bucks a month for some good channels

I assume most on this sports site enjoy watching live sports, and you can not do that with Netflix. I completely agree with you in principle though, if I didn't watch live sports, I would only have Netflix and internet
My IPTV service is $90 a year
I get sunday ticket, league pass, extra innings, center ice and every major soccer game there is.
