It can't penetrate through houses (even windows) or leaves on trees. The coverage maps are a joke.

Despite what so many people had claimed during NN debates it isn't going to replace a wired connection to the home as its primary source of internet.

Yes it will. With improvements like beam forming and massive MIMO, all carriers need to do is deploy more small cells in order to make home internet a possibility. The mmWave spectrum they're currently using is very well suited for fixed home receivers. Setting up an outdoor antenna on the side of your house that feeds the modem indoors has always been the plan (we already do this with satellites).
I would suggest waiting out this "5G" craze until carriers launch NR in all of their low and mid bands that they currently own (which should be soon due to DSS).

People are already up in arms about ugly "5G" monopoles showing up in their front yards along city easements** -- and so now the solution is more of them?
Hard pass.
**waiting for someone -- anyone -- inside government to complain about the peanuts being offered for rent for these towers. Hint: when you hear "it's for the children", crank the BS-Detector up to max and raise the rent.

What if I told you that you can already get over 1.5Gb/s OTA without 5G.

Couldn’t you just get a mini tower for your house and run it inside?

Requires you being next to a MacroBTS/Small Cell that pumps out 4x4MIMO 256QAM and LAA Cells in a 5CC cell set.
Verizon and TMO are actively trying to push these configurations out in large markets. The actual max is roughly 1.6Gbps.
How do I know this? Well I tested this directly in my lab and wrote the case description

Another configuration that is sprouting up is FDD/TDD RF Sharing BTS's that will utilize the CBRS Spectrum the US Government is leasing to US Carriers.
I have a potential case were sitting on at the moment that can possibly allow 2Gbps OTA. But I cant tell you how just yet.

All I care about is if 5G be able to do 4k movies and tv shows.

I’ve had luck with it in some big city’s - but I don’t think I’m getting true 5G.

Not true 4k.
What service streams this "true 4k" you speak of, anyway?

I feel like you just hacked me through words over the internet.

Are any carriers currently offering 5g?

This is what happens when you keep raising the frequencies.
Higher frequencies have shorter wavelengths. Shorter wavelengths have less capability to penetrate through barriers than longer wavelengths.
Shorter wavelengths also present greater health risks.

lawsuits waiting to happen if they don't properly safety test this. The energy densities are getting too great and the wavelengths are getting too small.

You don't really "get it" and that's pretty normal. People were shitting on 4G when it came out as well.
Do you think these companies, arguably run by some of the brightest minds in the world, would be investing hundreds of millions(maybe billions) of dollars into this without knowing how it will work?
Let it mature.
You will probably look back at this thread in a year and laugh.
