Cord cutting question

Been paying $240 a month, more than ready to cut. Been testing a few setups. FireTV and Roku premier. PSvue and Youtube.tv
Question is how do you guys get over the loos of all the functions of a cable tv remote. It is driving me absoutely crazy not having volume buttons, previous channel button, a guide button, etc, etc. Basically all the things that you NEED to watch tv. Is there no answer for this?

The Logitech Harmony Smart Remote Control is the remote to control everything like you want. Also compatible to be voice controled with Alexa.

Apple TV has a volume button.
As for the others, they are usually built into the service os in some way and pretty quick to access. Not having it at the single click of a button is the trade off for spending $100+ less a month (in my eyes at least it is worth it).

2 things. First, Alexa + FireTV works well with several of the streaming services so you can easily change channels "Alexa change channel to ESPN". 2nd there are "add ons" for FireTV remotes like the SideClick that give it basic IR functionality for On/Off Up/Down with volume. The newest FireTV remotes have this basic IR functionality built in.
The days of channel surfing may be gone forever, but the new way of watching TV keeps improving and has it's own set of positives that I'd miss if I went back to traditional cable.

I've got ATT Gigabit, 3 apple tvs, directvnow with HBO, and netflix and I can watch just about anything I want to. The apple tv remote can control the volume, turn on/off just about any modern tv. Directv has a guide that is just like any cable provider, only they don't have a last channel like you mentioned which is bothersome sometimes. But there's voice control built into the remote which trumps that for me. Screaming kid who needs Moana on yesterday? Voice request and two button presses later I'm there without scrolling through.
But I only pay 150/month currently and think I go up to 160 bc of the gigabit after the first year. I was about to be up to $220/month with Uverse before I decide to switch.

The Harmony remote is good. Also allows you to control everything from your phone. Will work with Alexa too.

Yeah, I keep telling myself it's just that your old and used to the old ways :-) I know part of the answer is to change watching habits, but 50 years of habit is hard to change.

I've got a 5 dollar Blackweb remote that controls all those things. There are guides on the streaming service, you just have to know how to swipe the remote to get it to come up.

Check out the Sideclick remote for Fire TV or Apple remotes.
Fully programmable.

most smart tvs have remotes that control those apps and volume. Get a universal remote that controls apps and volume.

I have Sony Android tv in the living room. Has all the apps already on it. 1 remote for everything.
I also have a TV with a built in Roku in the den and for the kids. 1 remote for everything.
If you're going to cut the cord for good, get better setups than a FireTV or Roku for your main tv.
There's tvs with built in rokus (sharp/insignia), androidtv (sony), and i'm pretty sure Samsung finally got to where they offer the WatchESPN app through their tvs. Not sure if the Samsungs have Vue/Youtube/sling/etc, but the other two do, as well as every other app you would need.

The idea of watching tv is to watch the tv, not push a bunch of buttons like you're playing a video game.
You get accustomed to the format of the service you're using, so your current angst of change will vanish over time.
