Can someone recommend me a color laser printer that is good for home use? Just the normal functions needed, print on both sides, wifi. I am tired of the ink jet printers and their costly ink that only seems to print 50 pages and then runs out.

I’m a fan of Brother models. They last and have had no issues. I upgraded to an all in one 2 years ago for scanning and fax capabilities.

HP, Canon, Brother are all good.

but if you don't like expensive ink, you definitely won't like buying toner....

I have had a brother mfc-9130cw for about 4 years now. I bought toner once...... and I have 3 kids who like to print random crap. Extremely happy with it.

I've had color lasers for my home office until I bought my current HP 7612 ink jet that can print up to 13"x19", which I have a need for. I do have to replace the ink often but I found a good 3rd party ink that is not expensive at all. I had a dell color laser I bought in 2000 that lasted until 2014....great printer but in the end it was going to be expensive to repair. Bought a brother color laser that lasted about 2 years and in that time I had to replace the toners which was $$$$$. Replacing ink is nothing compared to toners and drums.

I've had a $180 B&W Brother with auto duplex since 2009 or so and am still on the starter toner. I did cover the little window on the cartridge with electrical tape last year when it told me it ran out, and it's been fine since then. This is a commonly performed hack.

Model Name Brother HL-5370DW series
Device Status
Page Count 3464
Drum Count 3464
Remaining Life
*Drum Unit 21536 pages
(% of Life Remaining) (86.14%)
Fuser Unit 96536 pages
(% of Life Remaining) (96.53%)
Laser Unit 96536 pages
(% of Life Remaining) (96.53%)
Paper Feeding Kit MP 49998 pages
(% of Life Remaining) (99.99%)
Paper Feeding Kit 1 97451 pages
(% of Life Remaining) (97.45%)

I don't print much, and if I were still using inkjets, I would have spent hundreds on ink. Over a year, I determined my cost per page for a six color HP was like 30 cents, and it was due to the frequent cleaning cycles that wasted most of my ink. Never again. This Brother OTOH may last me the rest of my life.

We have a Brother MFC-L8850CDW at our office. It works well and we haven’t had to change the toner yet since we bought it in June. Bought it at Office Depot for around 400-500 I believe. Thinking about getting a second one.

Look up "e-z ink" toner on Amazon. Have had good luck with it.

I've had the Brother HL-3075CW for a couple of years and it's been great. I print a lot of color for work and only changed the toner once.

Look into HPs. I have a Color LaserJet 2600n that is probably 10 years old now and still works great. The only thing it doesn't have that I wish it did was duplex printing.

Toner lasts a pretty good while, but is expensive to replace.
