Cell phone advice needed (Android to iOS)

I'm sure a few of you have been keeping up with the buildup to the 12th. Here's my situation. I currently have a Note20 Ultra (512gb version) that I bought on release day. (No matter what I'm keeping it to use as a mini android tablet.)
I would have made the move to Apple last year but wanted to wait for them to finally switch to USB-C. So I'm looking at the 15 Pro Max. Am I an idiot for making the move? If I do, what is the sweet spot for storage? Is it easy to offload data from an iPhone to a PC?
I'm the only one in the household of 4 not on an iPhone. I do have an iPad Air and keyboard that I bought a year and a half ago. So I've had experience with iOS but not a lot. About 25 years ago I switched from Apple to PC and we are still a PC/chromebook only family.

Can I ask what your reasoning for the switch is?
I moved from android to iPhone with the 11, strictly to have iMessage. I stayed with iPhone for 3 years but I never really noticed my messaging experience being worth it. Missed android alot. Finally swapped back to a pixel 7a this summer and haven't looked back.
I did get beeper app to be able to iMessage some folks

I switched bc of the ease of use with family with iPhone and it's been great. I used to root my android and customize so much but I actually find relief that I can't do that.
Also, apps work better on iPhone and the availability of products are typically on iPhone first.

Wow, you make a compelling argument!

I agree with, Hu.
I view my phone as an appliance, not an extension of my ego. I just want something that works. I don’t care if I can’t do any hacking or what have you. In fact, less is more.
Android seems to suffer from the Linux issue. Too many competing products trying to do the same thing.

Number one reason for not switching to iPhone.

No. I hate Apple but their stuff is just stupid easy to use and smooth. Plus if you buy into the closed ecosystem it all works together so well that you dont even have to think about it. If youre someone with extra time to tinker then go for Android but otherwise I dont see a point. I just give in. The deal-breaker for me is that Apple at least has proven they value privacy.
The ads I was getting when I owned a pixel truly creeped me out.

I regret it. I moved from the Note to whatever the latest Iphone is. I've had it for 3 months now and still hate it. Simple stuff like notifications and windows are all complicated by their swipe system that only works when you accidentally do it. And the funny thing is my iphone family people when I ask about how to get to something have to take 2 or 3 times trying to get the stupid swiping thing working as well.
The only thing Iphone does MUCH better is facial recognition and unlock. I hated how bad it was on the Note 10. I really just need to throw this one in the garbage in 2 years and stop having a cell phone. I'm becoming a Luddite I guess.
