Then I'm curious why your basic browse/stream user would choose to go the costly route of running cable, but the cost of cat6 vs 5e would be a big deal. Do you offer the choice, or just run the 5e unless requested otherwise?
quote:I think the issue is we might not know the answer to that right now. But it seems to me that since multi-gig APs, NASs, and other gear is already on the market today, even though 5e might do it I'd rather run cable rated for it.
Just curious the applications where 5e would be an issue.

While I’m soliciting services for my FIL in this thread…
He has a “camp” with control4. He wants to dump his local boxes in favor of streaming. The app from his cable provider is not available on Roku but is available on an AppleTV.
I, thinking I was smarter than I was, went ahead an picked up an AppleTV thinking I could drop it in place of his cable box and then use the “learn remote” function on the AppleTV box to learn the c4 remote’s programming of his cable box. UDLR worked fine, but it struggles with long/short clicks for other functions. I even tried using his cable box’s remote to be “learned” by the ATV and then used the c4 (with the cable box commands), but it does not work well. So, I think all dealer-circumvention is effectively failed.
He has no relation to dealers up here, and the one who put this in 3y ago is 90+ minutes away.
Is adding a device a short and relatively cheap job (under $150ish?) for an experienced dealer that can be done remotely? I’m just not familiar with how the system works, and if it can be done remotely, I’d like to give you the business rather than folks up here.

Spinning my wheels trying to source parts
Preaching to the choir. We have a 1 month backlog getting basket tray for data centers and don't even try to source a MOXA or a Juniper switch. Gray market only right now.

CAD fools a lot of people on here on many things. One of those things is me being a C4 dealer.
Where are you located ? I know plenty of C4 dealers in the region.

Oh. Wow. I’m a fool. Sorry about that.

We are up in New England - I think I will just go ahead and call his old dealer and see what the damage will be unless you have someone up that way that you’d specifically recommend.

What would the cost be to run 200-300ft of Cat6 with 2 drops? Both walls are exterior so insulation would need to be navigated.

I consider myself a cabling connoisseur of sorts. I love a challenging cable project.
I'll come take a look and see what we can come up with.
Happy 4th!

Cisco gear for our ERATE contract is 6 months at best right now.
Cable still isn't much of an issue for us, but I'm sure it's coming .

On a house with a roof pitch that allows for exterior top plate access?
Please understand that's a ½ day truck roll, minimum, for a single cable. All that costs $$$.
$360 for 4 hours labor for 2 men, truck, tools....
$50 for materials unless you are providing then. I can run 2 cables for almost the same price.

We've been able to source cable without problems but national storage numbers for manufacturers are not looking good. I have three quotes out on jobs with 800+ drops and if we win those (and we seem to be in a good position) we will be scrambling.

I have one that 1500 drops and project time is 600 days + weather days.
I'm not confident we won't see prices doubleuch less be able to get it in 300 days.
My ERATE project for one school system is about 100K patch cables over the next 3 years and if the infrastructure bill passes, that will dump ever more money into that program. It's great to have such a contract, but stressful wondering if we will be able to fulfill the material portion in a year
