Car stereo question

I got my 16 year old son a 2019 Toyota Tacoma recently. For Christmas he wants to upgrade the stereo, specifically a sub and box for it. I know nothing about this. Any local places recommended as a good place to start? Feel like I don’t know enough to just order online. I’m in Covington area. Thanks.

haven't automakers made it more and more difficult to swap the oem unit out? i can't imagine a 2019 tacoma being easy to upgrade.

To change a head unit, because of factory integration. But if he is just adding a sub, get a line output converter hooked up(might need a special harness as well) then just hookup amp and sub

You don't have to replace the factory stereo to add a sub, if that is what he wants. You can use a line out converter, like the AudioControl LC2I, to tap into the rear speaker output wires and get a signal for the amp and sub.

Same head units. Wants subs in a box under his back seat and I believe he needs an amp I was told.

You will need
line output converter and possibly a special harness specific to the car,
Amp and sub, they do make all in one units as well
Amp wiring kit
ETA, some amps and all in one subs accept line level inputs, but you still may need special harness. IMO I always do the line output converter

Music Express in downtown Hammond. I know they install car stereos but don't know if they Install speakers. But they did an excellent job installing my son's radio in his car last year.

You can DIY this if you want with YouTube videos as a guide. I don’t think it would be too expensive for a pro to do also though.

Try Crutchfield chat option. I have done some head units, speakers, and crap on 2 occasions from them. The chat was super helpful, essentially loaded a shopping cart on the website with absolutely everything I needed. Just had to go to check out.
The instructions were clear and easy, they back it up with tech support too.

I have a JL Audio Stealth Box in my Tundra and it is awesome. However, it is really expensive - almost $800 for the just the sub.

There is an company out of San Antonio that will sell you a kit of everything you need. It may be a little more expensive than if you pieced it together, but they have done all of the measurements and built any adapters you may need to account for speaker size.
Taco Tunes
I used some of the stuff they have put together to do a stereo in an FJ Cruiser years ago. Pulling the Toyota apart and putting it back together was easy with the help of some Youtube videos.
Installing it myself was fun, but I am sure you can get someone to do all of this pretty reasonably if you don't want to bother with it.

Check out TacoTunes and have Music Express handle the install. He does really clean work.
