You have 60 days to buy it.

Is the MacBook a new model or a clearance sale of an old model?

It's possible the model went EOL and the clock started on the Apple warranty earlier (in this situation Best Buy would still honor the entire year if you brought it there for repairs)

But you probably should just talk to Apple to figure out what's going on

yep

the OG sale date on the open box is what apple is (was) going by.

If you buy a returned apple product from BBY (i.e. open box), Apple basically has the OG sale info in their system, often requiring a phone call to fix. This also used to cause problems when Apple tied purchase info and iWork free download eligibility to AppleID of the purchase and that customer returned the device. Best Buy would wipe the laptop, iWork would be missing, and it wouldn't redownload for the new customer. Customer would then have to call Apple to get it fixed unfortunately.

Generally extended warranties aren’t worth it, but there are some features with AppleCare like express replacements and 24/7 access that do legitimately make sense, in addition to saving money on repairs.

Do the math on glass screen protectors and what a screen replacement is vs the cost of apple care price alongside the screen replacement price with apple care.

They don't even replace the screens on the iPad pros. They just give you a new one. Tech said it's just one piece now.
