I'd like to punch Bill Gates in the throat for turning my laptop into a useless piece of plastic.

Yes, it's been more than the 30 days. Any advice would be helpful.

Tell us how you really feel.

Why do you hate 10?

You'd have to clean install Windows 7. And if you're gonna do that, you might as well clean install Windows 10, which would probably solve any performance issues.

What's the problem you're having? Have you looked for updated drivers in the meantime? Drivers are the cause of 99% of Windows upgrade problems.

Because it tried to turn my laptop into a smart phone. It royally screwed up my touchpad. Every time my hands got near the keyboard or pad, that ridiculous pinch zoom would either make everything so small you needed a magnifying glass to see it, or it would make it so large Ray Charles could see it.

No matter how many times I disabled that feature, it always turns itself back on.

I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for the touchpad and it's even more screwed up than before. It's using a 2006 version driver for the touch pad and when I try to update it it tells me that's the latest driver available. I even tried to manually download the right driver from the Synaptic website but it won't load it because it tells me I'm already using the latest one.

I also tried uninstalling the touchpad all together and let Windows to the whole plug and play thing like the older OS's used to do. No dice. That's how I ended up with the 2006 version that won't update.

I even tried using the restore/recover feature to roll it back to an earlier date. It goes through the whole process but makes no changes to my system.

Thanks Bill Gates, you jackass.

My Asus computer used to do this but it was an installed Asus program where I made the changes, and not a Windows problem.

HP tells me it's a windows problem. MS tells me it's a manufacturer problem.

You realize MSFT is on the second CEO after Gates right?

ETA: for the record I have 10 on 2 computers. Love it

HP is responsible for writing/sourcing decent drivers for its hardware, not M$.
Is your laptop on the W10 ready list from HP? Did you even check that before upgrading to W10?

Also make absolutely sure that you installed all the latest Windows updates in PC settings.

I said this in a similar topic that Windows 10 normally finds several driver updates after the big upgrade from 7/8 to 10.

I had the same problem. After reboot, the settings came back. I found this and it worked.

Open up regedit.exe
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Install
Note this is LOCAL MACHINE, not CURRENT USER.
Look for a key in that Install folder called DeleteUserSettingsOnUpgrade
Double click and change the value to 0

at that even being a thing. Kudos on providing what appears to be the solution though
