Needed to swap out the crappy radio in my 87 bmw so i was amazed to find how inexpensive head units are these days.
finally decided on a $50ish (amazon warehouse) Jensen because its a new model (came out earlier this year so should have the latest & greatest bluetooth yada yada yada)
anyway, the genius of this little unit is not that it comes with a steering wheel remote for that price but that jensen found a way to reuse the motorized component formerly used to insert & eject CDs.
anyway, put it all back together and its absolutely fantastic. now instead of dealing with shitty nany-state android auto, i just leave the phone on the qi pad and use any app i want for navigation or music.
there are 2 little grabber guys on the tray after it opens that secure your phone. works perfect for my 3XL and wife's iPhone X.
only installed a couple of days but if you need a cheap head unit for an old vehicle and you're sick of usb cords and your phone not having a place to sit, this one should be on your short list!

To each his own but that actually look terrible to me.

its a car radio? wth do you expect? i could give a shite what led colors it has; this is the best combined functionality i've ever seen.
you must not struggle with phones connected to usb cables sliding off the center console & cigarette lighter usb chargers.
also this is a 1980s vehicle; not a 2015 escalade i'm trying to swap the head unit on.

For starters it seems like the tray would cover up most cars climate controls.
If you are happy with it that's all good, but I'd much rather just put in a double din radio, regardless of the year. If it's a vehicle you use often, the year doesn't really matter.

Same here. I've actually got a Pioneer I need to get around to putting in my SUV. I had it in my Jeep and removed it before I sold it. But it isn't as simple as just popping it in. I want steering wheel controls to work, connect it to the backup camera, and also want to wire in the existing USB port so I can still plug a phone in. It will do many things right through BT, but there are a couple of apps that work perfect only if the phone is plugged in.

You seem pretty excited for someone who once said "Bluetooth is the stupidest technology ever."

I would never put a $50 head unit in my car, but great review.

In 1997 when I put in my kenwood in a 1994 Plymouth Sundance that was key
You going to get a bazooka bass for trunk?

Rattle windows regain your youth
Best highschool memory was using crutchfield and changing out ac delco for kenwood. I miss the Sundance - Dodge Shadows are boogie
I didn't have base - but those 5/7 did the job

I bought a Jensen similar to that for about $40 on Amazon. Put it in my golf cart. Sent the MF back after it stopped working the 3rd time I turned it on. I bought the cheaper version for $17 at walmarks. It works and I sprung for the $2 warranty

All this car stereo stuff was way more expensive back then.

I wasn't sure how to run wire for subwoofer or would have embarrassed parents
That Alpine head unit was running $300 wanted Alpine
