Now what do I do with it? Any apps or whatever that are must haves? What specific efficiencies does your watch provide?

I mainly use mine to control my Airpods, and for quick responses to text messages.

Steps to Apple Watch
1 - Get hyped about how it'll radically change your life
2 - Purchase
3 - Get disappointed when you run out of stuff to do with it on day 1, question the entire concept
4 - Become entirely dependent on it for answering calls, getting messages/notifications/etc.

I’ve had it in my possession since Saturday, but haven’t even opened the box yet lol.

IF you decide to keep it
Do purchase the Apple Care for it. It is cheap insurance and the watch can and will get banged up

I dunno about that, I've had the Series 3 for over a year now and it's one of the most used things I own. I workout 1-2 a day every day. If you workout more than 3x a week, it's easily a good investment into your health.
Not to mention on the Series 4 they added in ECG as a feature. Hopefully, for most of the Series 4 buyers, that is a feature never used, HOWEVER, imagine if you're someone that gets alerts and you go to a doctor and find out you have an issue. For some people, it could turn into a 400$ device that they can use daily and might help them discover a life threatening issue.
I bag on apple but the Apple Watch is a winner. Hands down.

That's my whole point, really. As cool as they are, they're still pretty limited devices, a realization that can be a bit disappointing at first. But the thing the commercials don't really make a big deal out of (routine notifications, etc.) become the things that really make it a must-own in retrospect, at least for me.

My take.
1. Don't choose the automatic app install option on the watch or your watch will get overloaded with apps you don't use over time and battery life will become awful.
2. Enable list view for the apps on the watch not grid view.
3. Screen covers are available for those who are rough on their watches. I don't use one, though, and mine is fine.
4. Don't get frustrated when setting up your watch faces that some apps are available for use on some faces but not on others.
5. Love the "Default Replies" option on the stock Messages app. I have it loaded up with my most common one-liner replies. It is very easy to reply to texts (and emails) this way.
6. Here are the apps I recommend most...
- Just Press Record: you can read about it, but is a very good discretionary tool for the watch.
- Drafts or Evernote: if you already have an Evernote subscription, you'll probably want to use Evernote here. If you don't, try Drafts. I can't decide which I like better. They are both great for taking notes when you don't have your phone.
- PCalc: best calculator for this interface.
- V for Wiki: just the right amount of info when you are on-the-go without your phone.
- theScore: simple interface for getting score updates for your teams.
- Starbucks app: payment app, just works.
- Calendar vs. Fantastical: some rave about Fantastical on the Apple Watch. I default to Fantastical on my iPhone, but I actually like the stock Calendar app better on this interface.

my wife has had her 4 for about 2 weeks now. notes:
- she loves being able to swim with it. there's even a little 'spin the dial' option to ensure its completely dried out after being immersed in water.
- just updated watch (and phone) for the ecg feature. very cool, just remember if you have trouble you have to update BOTH watch & phone and it won't show a phone update available until you've updated the watch first
- HR is even faster & more responsive than before
- phone calls using her watch are crystal clear; even better than they were but she jumped from a v1 to a v4 watch and a 6s to a X.

CAD, glad she’s digging the 4. I am so tempted to get the 4 for the better HR sensor alone.
I’ve resorted to wearing my Peloton and Polar HR straps blietoothed to my Apple Watch for better HR readings. But I’m OCD with knowing my hr constantly during HRs.

Cool. I’ll probably open it up tomorrow.

I bought my 3series about a year ago. I am not a techie type guy. I am more of a no frills and all function guy.
That said, this watch is incredible.
1. I use it to work out every day. I downloaded an interval app that buzzes my arm when it is time to change.
2. It allows me to leave my phone locked in my desk at work and not be tied to it all day. I can respond to texts and answer my phone on my wrist.
3. It allows me to walk around all day without a phone (I hate carrying one) and can pay with the Apple Pay on it.
4. I use the walkie talkie app to quickly talk to my kids and wife who also have one. It is great.
5. I use it while I ride my motorcycle to check who is calling me without having To answer.
I could go on and on but in summary, it’s great for people who don’t care about all the features on a phone like social media, etc.

I love my three. Use it for running and to store a few music playlists. Also nice not having to pull out your Phone to see/respond to texts.

Finally fired it up. Have a few questions:
1. Is there a way to set the watch to vibrate only? I see how you can silence the watch which removes vibration and sound and theater mode which is even more.
2. I normally ask Siri to play the news and the news podcast from NPR and then Fox News plays. It works when I tell her to do it on my watch but the audio plays on my iPhone. How can I get the audio to play through my watch?

1. You can set vibrate alerts from the app on your phone.
2. You can’t play audio thru the watch. You need some headphones paired to it.

Walkie talkie app??? I need this
Posted on 12/22/18 at 10:29 pm to djangochained
I saw there was a walkie talkie app on my watch. In today’s day and age where it’s unlimited calls / text why would I need this?
