Besides, from your own link:
quote:
“Television and other entertainment media should be avoided for infants and children under age two.”
Anyway, the whole thing boils down to an issue of parenting. There is no set of rules that says "do this to be a good parent and raise a decent, well-adjusted and intelligent human being". You just have to understand moderation and actually have an interest in your child's development. The tools you use don't matter.

I need to grow up before I procreate because I think giving a 2 year old a tablet is a bad idea. Give me a break dude.
You are berating parents in here about their parenting skills because you have your mind made up that a child shouldn't have a tablet. You are basing your stance on absolutely ZERO experience, yet you continue to argue even after being basically proven wrong and after claiming to be done with this thread.
Grow up.

I think EVERY parent claims that they will never let their kid watch TV, consume sugar own a video game. Hell I have even heard that they will use only cloth diapers. ALL BEFORE they had a kid.
People that do not have a children talking to parents how they SHOULD raise their kids without knowing the first thing about being a parent are some of the most ignorant people on earth.

You're obviously getting worked up over a stranger's opinion on the tiger droppings tech board. Chill out and go enjoy your kids.

We don't suffer fools gladly, so occasionally we find ourselves taking troll bait.

Here's an idea. Give your 2 year old ACTUAL puzzles and paints.
why?
Explain to me how my kid doing a puzzle on the floor is better than on the tablet?
Let me ask you this. When you need to multiply 28x412, you get out a pen and a pad, or your phone?
If I had to guess based on your comments in this thread, you're getting out the pen and pad right?

Because they have to use their hands to feel actual objects not just swipe their finger across a screen.

I'd use a calculator but that's irrelevant to the development of a 2 year old.

Something you obviously know everything about right?
Like I said. My two year old watched a show called Baby Babble on the way home from daycare in the car daily. It teaches him how to pronounce words better. (Developed by Speech Pathologists) My two year old learns to color on the iPad as well as a color book when that's available. My two year old plays Endless ABC on the tablet. Where he drags letters that pronounce the sound out to him while spelling words out. Then it tells him the words and plays a video telling him about that word as a reward when he gets it correct. OBVIOUSLY these are things that are just making my 2 year old a stupid person.
Come back to me after you have changed a diaper full of shite and got pissed on in the process. Then we can talk about how much your kid watches Curious George.

I never said that. Just said that a 2 year old shouldn't have a tablet. Now all of a sudden I'm a know-it-all who isn't entitled to my opinion.

quote:The opinion of a non-parent about parenting is worthless in a thread full of parents. Especially an opinion with zero backing, and lots of research showing how wrong that opinion is. I mean, it has been pointed out to you that actual child development professionals use tablets in their work.

Whoever raised you to believe that everyone's opinion is as valuable as anyone else's was a bad parent. But that's just my opinion.

That reminds me. Maybe we should get back to helping the OP with his tablet options?
Anyone tried a Nexus 7 with a custom ROM meant for kids? Google shows that they exist in some form. Curious what they add in terms of controls vs. what you can set up on stock android. Last time I explored the idea of a tablet just for my daughter, I tried a used first-gen kindle fire, and it was just a total POS. I know a bit more about rooting and flashing ROMs now, though.

I will give you a little free lesson. Before a child learns to use the toilet they take shits and piss without control. You go through that for a good two years. (if you are lucky it doesn't go three)

Yea.. all you did was say that one sentence and nothing more... You were not proven wrong about motor skills were you? You didn't fire back about all sorts of shite you know nothing about to support an opinion that you know nothing about.

No apparently you are the one that comes to tiger droppings to give parenting advice from your vast array of experience in the matter.
1) You are not a parent
2) What do you even know about technology to post of the tech board? Some of the people in this thread you are arguing with are very knowledgeable in the technology world.
So why even post in this thread to begin with? Because you think you know better than people that have 1 and 2 covered?

That's the world we live in.
My kid uses his hands to catch and throw balls. Kids do other things during the day outside of playing on a tablet every waking moment.

How's it irrelevant? you seem to like using the easier more technological way of multiplying. What was the point of teaching you how to multiply on paper if you never use it in real life?
Outside of that, you need to quit harping on 2 year old. The OP said 3 year old. You probably don't realize it, but there's a big difference between a 2 and 3 year old.
Also, you assume that these kids with tablets spend every waking moment playing on them. Kids learn from all sorts of different ways. Interaction with other kids, tv, tablets, toys, books, and parent interaction. What's wrong with teaching them how to use technology? It's not going anywhere, and will only be implemented more in our daily lives as we get older.
And lastly, your opinions on raising children lack a crucial element....having an actual child to raise.
