The wife and I are thinking about getting dashcams for one another for Christmas. Anyone have any recommendations?

I have a Viofo. It's been pretty good so far. Seems like they all have issues after some time with failure.

Viofo has been known to have the best picture quality but it depends on what all you want. If you just want the best quality while driving for accident coverage, the Viofo is your device but if you want something that has the ability to monitor when parked, the THINKWARE and blackvue camera’s have the best parking monitoring capabilities. With that being said, the picture quality of the THINKWARE and Balckvue are still good. I have the THINKWARE U3000 connected to an external battery.

The market is in desperate need of a quality American made dash cam.
I use a VIOFO A229 duo. Supposedly UHD but the only way I could make out a plate is if it was in my windshield.
With that said, VIOFO A119 is a good value from them. Make sure to buy the SD card the manufacturer suggests. (VIOFO branded) I don't know why but it's the only one that ever worked in the camera for me.
Whatever you buy is better than nothing. Got side-swiped in a parking lot and spent the next 6 weeks and 50+ hours on the phone with insurance because the other party made up some story.

I have a Viofo a229 Pro Dual cam paired with a Sandisk Extreme 256GB. Best is what you can afford. Best: Blackvue/Thinkware paired with external battery pack will cost you at least $1,000+.

The OWL cam plugs straight into the OBDII plug, so it's always powered on. No worries about recharging batteries or complicated power hookups.

Viofo A229. Wait till the OBD2 cable they're developing comes out.
