Basic laptop help

My 5 year old Acer Aspire E15 is dying. I'm looking at a Lenovo IdeaPad 5 or a Surface Laptop Go . No gaming or heavy use, just basic stuff. RARE Zoom calls, email, etc. Don't need much but don't want a super slow computer either.

That Ideapad has fine specs but I have bought a lot of them (lower price point but doesn't matter for this discussion) for my office and they often wear out. The build quality is absolute shite and the keyboard quality is worse.
Surface Laptops are good but I'm not familiar with the "Go" models.
Spend the $600 on this
or $450 on this

computers dont really get old and die. is the cpu fast enough? if yes, solve what is making the laptop slow. if you buy a new laptop you still have to rid of bloatware and do a lot to make it work properly.

In what way is it dying?
That looks like an 8th Gen Intel CPU so it's not that old from that perspective. Depending on issues maybe a RAM or SSD upgrade could be a cheaper fix.

I am sorry to have to do this in your thread, but I can't start threads and I need help.
I have a macbook in which I want to erase everything. I about to set up a new computer and although my macbook screen is fried, I can see a through a very small part of the screen and I want to turn off the location, get rid of all the content, etc.. How can I do this? I don't see anything in system preference that gives me the option.
