I have been working from home with my fiancé for the past year and somehow finally got around to looking at our internet bill and realized COX was charging us an additional $80 a month in data overage fees.

I did some searching and found out fiber is available in my neighborhood with the fiber box actually located 4 houses down on the corner. The fiber 1000 has no data caps and is $70 a month. It’s a total savings of over $1,500 a year.

Was wondering what to expect with the fiber installation? How are the speeds? Does the service ever drop out? Also, we have issues getting a signal to everywhere in the house (it’s not even a big house) would that be an issue with fiber?

I have it. Its been great. Almost 0 outages and speeds are extremely fast. Be careful if digging around in your yard though (and make note of where they bury that line). That fiber line is easy to cut through.

I lost my internet for about 2 weeks doing some simple landscaping around a flower bed last year.

I have it in Dallas. Never ever had a problem. Fast internet! I only use my xbox to stream youtubetv, netflix etc and I've never had a buffering issue

I have been wanting to make the switch Cox to ATT because my neighbor has a servitude box in their backyard but unfortunately, I constantly see the ATT service technician van outside their house. So that gives me pause.

I never was really considering switching, but when I saw that Cox was charging us $80 in additional overages while working from home during covid, it’s a principle thing now. Literally nothing they could say would make me stay with them.

I've had it for a few years. Zero complaints. Works at the advertised speeds. The only downtime I've ever had was recently when a bomber took out a central office, so I'll let that one slide.

it's extremely good. I'm in Youngsville so not exactly a tech hotbed and I get consistent 900 mbps down. It's only gone out during the hurricane as well

he probably has a node in his front yard. meaning anyone who gets fiber close to you has to route through that box.

The 1Gbps fiber also includes HBO Max.

I have had it for 5 years now. No complaints. The connection has been very reliable. My gateway failed once due to lightning. That is my only equipment issue. I think I have had service interrupted one time due a network failure over the 5 years and that was for a few hours one sunday morning. Might have been a planned outage.

If you are really on a budget, they have 100Mbps and 300Mbps plans that usually start around $30-35/month and also have no data caps. I would personally do 100Mbps but last february they had a special on 1Gbps for $39/month.

if your house is big enough be sure to ask about their mesh extenders for their WIFI. Their mesh units (airties) have ethernet backhaul which is very nice.

I switched from Cox to AT&T fiber for $67 earlier this year and have no regrets. One time I had to reset the router. Like another said it comes with HBO Max which is nice. I’m in NOLA FYI.

I just built a new house and have ATT fiber 1Gbps. I also bought the Netgear Orbi wifi6 with 2 satellites. I wired for the satellites, all TV's, etc.

It is working fine overall, not sure what I was expecting speed wise. IF on my wireless laptop, I get about 250Mb down and 300Mb up. I was sort of thinking speeds would be higher, especially when not using other devices at the time.

I went with Hulu for TV, and it will sometimes crash, and buffer for 5 seconds or so, maybe 2-3 times a night. I bought new TV's for the house, my main ones are Samsung curves. I contacted Hulu and they told me that they have some buffering issues with Samsung TV's. Not sure I believe it, but that is what they told me.

Anyway, I'm happy with my internet, just had it in my head I would get 900mpbs on every device at every second.

Switched from Comcast a few years ago and haven’t regretted it at all. I was with Comcast in this same house for 8 years and had an outage at least every two months. Mostly just a few minutes, but still. Was paying $90/month for 300 mb down and 100 up and a 300 Gb cap per month.

Swapped to 1GB fiber with a 1TB cap for $70/month. Only had one or two outages in about 4 years before the Christmas Day bomb.

It's incredible. It didn't blink during of after the hurricane as my neighbors waited 3 weeks for Cox.

Best move I ever made.

Renter in my office had to have it for the office space he rents from me... Government deal. They bored under the highway at a cost of $25K and got it in the building. I piggie backed on that with my own dedicated line, and it's awesome.

Also enhanced my building value significantly now that fiber is available there.

Love it.
