At&t fiber vs Cox thoughts

So I'm getting charged for going over my data limit on Cox. I've had Cox here for about 5 years because it was basically the only option for high speed internet. About 4 months ago at&t dug fiber lines through the neighbourhood and I called and confirmed it's available. I'm paying about $95 for 150 Mbps via Cox and could be paying $80 for 1000 Mbps via at&t.
It's no bundle with either, no cable just straight internet. If anyone has fiber what are y'all opinions anything I should know before making the change? They are scheduled to come this afternoon and set it up but I could always call and cancel if there is some downside I'm missing.

I've got it. It works just fine in general, but I had borderline unusable issues with the built in wifi on the router. I would get near constant drops and disconnects. Things went much smoother once I installed my own AP and disabled the wifi on the router.

I've had very bad customer service experiences with AT&T though granted it was many years ago.
I would recommend going to you local Cox store with equipment in hand and share your comparison to see if they will give you a better deal and new equipment. They did just that for me when I dropped their TV service.

I just got ATT Fiber yesterday in Youngsville. Very solid product. I'm coming from LUS Fiber in Lafayette which was also very good. This is just as good.

I had Cox for 15+ years and switched to Fiber when I moved where Cox wasn't yet available in BR. Fiber is cheaper, faster, and more reliable, in my opinion. The only issues I've had were (1) when that ATT strike happened about 4-5 months ago, and (2) when I accidentally cut the fiber line from box to my house when we re-sodded. ATT techs and their ability to service quickly is a bit of a crap-shoot, but overall I'm very happy with ATT. I have Uverse TV and internet via fiber - I think I pay like $160 total per month for both...$60 for internet and about $100 for TV with most of the channels and most of the premium channels.

Been very happy with AT&T fiber for the past 1.5 years. Very fast and stable. Only has gone down a handful of times and usually back up in minutes.
I had Comcast before that and it could go down multiple times in a week and be down for hours at a time.

I would also compare whether the $80 is the introductory rate, if so what will future rates be?
Are you allowed to use your own modem? It is more convenient to use their modem because they would be in charge of updates, and replacing if it craps out. But you have to pay a monthly fee. I always preferred to use my own because I can get a better quality modem; and most auto-update anyway. You may need to reset the system from time-to-time; but that was how it was when I had AT&T 6-7 years ago.

I had triple play services from cox since 2004. I switched to ATT for the same triple play but a faster internet and uverse. Saved me about $120 a month and no data cap thanks to also having cell with them. Cox's contour and on-demand are better than ATT whole home DVR but with some tweaks, its been a better service overall.

it goes from 80 to 110 after 1 year, which is still pretty solid. You have to use their Arris box thing but you can turn the wifi off on it and use your own routers.

What is the data cap for Cox? At&t also has a 1GB data cap unless you bundle with one of their TV services. Otherwise you have to pay another $30/month to get unlimited data on At&t.

Well that is a recent change. I just went through that whole ordeal about 8 months ago and am very well versed in their unlimited data requirements at that time.

Well that is interesting. The new $10 fee is a bit controversial as they don't allow you to bring your own equipment. Did you have to do anything special to get them to waive it?

No just told them I wanted to cancel and was making sure I was in my grace period of 14 days. They had only installed on Thursday and this was Saturday so I clearly was. They transferred me to retention or customer loyalty or whatever they call it. I told her that Cox was going to lower my bill to $66 and she said "let's see what I can do" and put me on hold for a minute and said there was a promotion to waive the rental fee.
When I called to set it up the guy said there was no equipment fee but I never told her that.
