Appears our new house is wired for ATT fiber already. I know regular AT&T sucks balls, but does anyone with fiber have a comment? I'm guessing the services will still be limited to shitty upload speeds without paying an arm and a leg and while Gbit speed is enticing I'm not sure if it even matters anymore since comcast is giving me about 300Mbit speed already.

does it even matter coax vs fiber these days?

1G ATT fiber here, average is 970M down and 950M up. Have had no issues in 3+ years.

Coax is not symetrical up/download and I believe it's still shared bandwidth xx number of subscribers on a link.

With ATT Fiber I pay $71/mo all in and receive 1200/1200 wired, rain or shine, day or night. I get about 850/850 wireless in strong rooms, closer to 500/500 in weak rooms. It's glorious, and I never want not to have fiber again.

ETA: I even kept internet throughout the entirety of Ida, including the cleanup. Anytime I turned on my UPS, I was immediately back up to gig glory.

at&t fiber is nice. They have 300/300, 500/500, 1,000/1,000, 2,000/2,000 & 5,000/5,000Mbps synchronous speed tiers. Everything under 1Gbps comes with a 1TB data cap and no option to remove it.

I am currently in the process of switching from At&t fiber to Xfinity due to no data cap and lower pricing. I'm going to a 600Mbps/20Mbps plan.

At&t fiber has always been top notch for me. I had great luck with their gateways and the service was never down over 6 years. I am sad to part ways with them but we have been exceeding the data cap and I do not want to pay $80/mo for internet as I dont need those speeds.

EDIT: At&t confirmed no fiber plans have data caps. So all speeds are cap free.

1Gbps is a flat rate of $80/mo.

Just an FYI, i just contacted my extended family member who is a VP at at&t and he says there is NO data caps for any fiber plans and that where it shows that on the website is incorrect. I'm trying to get some confirmation.

CAD703X Finally getting rid of that 1TB data cap? say it ain't so? For years we have heard the struggles of trying to keep a family under that monthly. Never thought i would see you join the data cap free family but here you are at the crossroads Spend about 70 @ month for the 1gb plan from AT&T with NO DATA CAP. No complaints in the 4 years have had it.

Never even had to restart my router the last 4 years with att fiber. Only time we've lost connection was when some a-hole in the front of the neighborhood cut the main line coming in to the whole hood.

ATT Fiber all day everyday. I will never go back to Comcast after having ATT fiber.

In KC area, Xfinity doesn't have data caps when you use their modem/gateway and they only charge $5/mo for that equipment on plans over 100Mbps. They are a high quality provider in this area.

Having said that, once I found out my at&t 300/300Mbps does not have a data cap, i cancelled my Xfinity install.

Just make sure you look at alternative wifi solutions (like your own access point) and not the wifi provided on the ATT equipment. I've helped several neighbors with the issue. The wifi on the modem/router that ATT used to send out for the fiber product was borderline unusable with disconnects every fews minutes. Not sure if that's changed since.

I have a BGW320-500, and while I certainly won’t rave about its range, I’ve literally never had it drop on me in the… six months or so? that I’ve had it. And between the computers and TVs, it gets a fair amount of use.

i have a nice mesh system so not interested in what att has to offer there. just want the doodad that connects to the fiber.

OK, so just be warned that you cannot bypass the at&t gateway (wireless router). You will have to live with it. You can do an IP passthrough but it isn't nearly as robust as a true bypass. You can turn off the wifi from it.

Also if you need any type of proper IPV6 support, Xfinity is the better choice.

I hate att but we got the fiber when we moved. It’s awesome, usually right around 1g speed.

Have that an an Eros mess system.
