Any catches here? Looks like it can save you a few hundred dollars or so over time…
Trying to figure out what I’m missing before I preorder the iPhone 13.
TIA!

My wife and I need new iPhones. Ours will be 4 years old at end of year. I’ve seen various ATT deals for iPhones, trade ins, etc. that require upgrading plans. I’d like to compare the cost of these new plans to what I’m paying now, and factor in a free phone vs paying out of pocket. To my surprise, ATT cannot give me a quote on any of these new plans. It blows my mind that I cannot easily get this info.

I did it last year and the only con was they dispersed the 700$ I got in 30 equal payments on my bill. So I have $23.33 off on my bill which I am at 10/30 so far. I want to pay my phone off and do the $1,000 trade in promotion AT&T is doing for 36 months and see if they will stack the promotions to get a total of $51.10 off my bill for at least 2 years. I would have to come out of pocket 700$ though to pay my current phone off.

They’re the only plan that locks your phone to their network until you pay it off, stretching the savings out to 36 months just forces you to stay with att for 3 years to see the whole savings. If you don’t plan to shop other providers and don’t plan to upgrade your phone for 3 years, go for it.

I already have the unlimited plan and doubt I’ll change carriers over the next 3 years.
So you pay for the phone outright then just get the money back in a credit?
Thanks all-

They probably split the price of the phone up over 36 payments then credit you the $1,000 or whatever, also divided up over three years.
Net effect is largely a free phone if you stay with them for 3 years. It’s the evolution of the old contracts where you agreed to keep service with them for 2 years in exchange for a subsidized phone ($199 for iPhone). Now you just pay notes for the phone and get credits back on your bill so long as you keep their service. If you leave, instead of the old early termination fees, you still owe the remaining payments on your phone and you forfeit the credits.

If T-Mobile is giving as big of credits as Reddit says they are my 12 pro is turning into a 13 pro. I don’t ever remember deals this good on just released phones across all the carriers.

My wife and I did this deal last year when switching from Sprint to AT&T. Traded our iPhone 8’s and got 12’s for free. Catch is we are “locked” into 30 month credits but I don’t plan on switching anytime soon. AT&T ain’t great but it’s light years better than Sprint was.
I believe its 36 months now as opposed to 30 last year. 30 worked for me cause i likely wouldn’t be upgrading my phone until iPhone 15 (2023).

I’m pretty sure once you pay the phone off, the monthly credits stop.

What’s their deal? I’m currently with Sprint/T-Mobile but off contract so I’ll be going with whoever has the best deal/monthly payments for the 13pro.

ETA: Damn just looked it up, this is the best deal I've ever seen for existing customers. I have an 11 Pro, seems like a no brainer to get a free 13 Pro
