Apple Unveils three new products in press releases

well three separate press releases, pretty minor updates IMO.
Updated AppleTV 4k
Apple introduces the powerful next-generation Apple TV 4K
Updated base model iPad
Apple unveils completely redesigned iPad in four vibrant colors
Updated iPad Pro
Apple introduces next-generation iPad Pro, supercharged by the M2 chip
based on what I read the biggest change for the AppleTV is the lower pricepoint for the 4k. If you are willing to sacrifice an ethernet port on the back of the box, you can get it for $129, they also doubled the starting storage of the 4k to 64GB for the Wifi only version and 128GB for the Wifi-Ethernet version.
The biggest change on the base model Ipad is USBC connections instead of lightning. New Chip and a slightly bigger screen. Also available in new vibrant colors. Basically a cheaper air with no M1 chip.
The biggest change on the iPad Pro is that it now has the M2 chip and better wifi connectivity; the apple pencil works slightly better too.
All minor updates. It makes sense why there was no keynote for this.
Last edit if I were to get any of these products it would be the iPad Pro 12.9 inch. My third gen iPad Pro is working good though and I don’t really need a processor boost as I mostly use the ipad for movies and web surfing right now. Plus I just got a new MacBook Pro so upgrading again doesn’t make financial sense to me.

Yea, all iterative updates. TBH, I'm not sure what more they can do to the AppleTV 4K unless they make a bigger one, get more titles on the Arcade front and try and compete with xbox/playstation.
Same with iPad, they can pretty much just make it slightly faster and with more storage at this point, unless they dig into sale for the ipad pro, which they won't.
The iPad pro seems like the biggest disappointment as folks have suggested reverse wireless charging, some sort of magsafe charging on the back, design refreshes, etc.
At this point, why get the M2 ipad pro over the M1 ipad pro? The hardware was already fast(er) than it needed to without pro apps on the M1.
ETA: I'm wondering if ALL of Apple's product line simply having iterative updates is a slight lag effect of the covid-19 shutdown? Maybe waiting for everything to catch back up globally before implementing something newer?
Then again, they just dropped the Apple Watch Ultra and things seem damn good there, so I dunno.

another note.
Apple quietly removed the AppleTV HD version it makes sense why they would do this. It was $149 for the HD version with fewer features than the 4K (outside of no support for 4K) So now, basically, you get a 4K AppleTV for a lower price with more storage and more features. At the same price, you get an ethernet port and more storage. IMO this is the best update of the day, mainly over the price, I thought the 4K was a little over priced, but I still love mine!
Also the new remote has USBC instead of Lightning. This is a nice change IMO.
Edit: I wonder if this is a sign for the new Macbook Pros that are rumored to come out this year, if it will basically be a chip upgrade only, to have a M2 pro and Max included. I've also heard rumors the new Mac Pros won't come out till the spring.

I'm getting ticked at apple. It will only release the refurb Ipad Pro 11 2nd GEneration in a damn 512 gb version, which I damn sure don't need. There is a 128 gb version but Apple won't sell the refurb version. Jerks.

Maybe a dumb question but here goes-
I have a Samsung Smart TV that has the AppleTV app installed. That is how I watch AppleTV programming.
What benefits/features would I get from buying an AppleTV box?

If you don't like the OS of your Samsung (Tizen), maybe it's slow or buggy... you might prefer Apple's OS (tvOS)
If there are apps missing from Tizen that are available on tvOS
If you're an Apple user and want everything within the same ecosystem.
There are some others like maybe you'd rather the Apple TV do the upconversion of 1080p content instead of your Samsung. But that sort of thing would be almost impossible to really tell the difference.
I would say it's probably not worth buying unless you just really love Apple products.

The switch to USB-C on these lower profile items seems like a low key way of starting to roll out that change from the Lightning connector. They can start getting up to speed on incorporating it in the Apple hardware environment and make sure things are smooth for the obviously upcoming major products that will switch. Good move.

I still have a 3rd gen IPad Pro 12.9 that is running fine. Not upgrading until it dies.

Thanks for posting these updates.
I have the most recent (last/this year's) revision of the Apple TV 4K, and I've been happy with it.
I did get a new LG OLED TV recently, which is phenomenal.
Not sure if it's worth it to upgrade to this newest Apple TV though......new price point is nice, but......thoughts anyone?

Can anyone see any justification for buying a 10th gen iPad over 9th right now? For over $100 more I just don’t see it.

It also added HDR10+ I think, not sure if that is a benefit to your new tv tho. I haven't fooled with HDR much, it always seems like it just made the picture darker but I have not tried it out much because my only device with it is my projector.

Is there ANY benefit from upgrading the 2018 ipad pro 12 inch to say the M1 iPad? Do they even sell the M1 ipad anymore or are they only pushing the M2 ipad since there's little to no difference?

which generation?
I would say hold on to your current iPad till it stops working as it should.
but if your interested apple has a good comparison tool for iPads.

Two things to clarify:
1) AppleTV is a streaming device. AppleTV+ is a streaming app/service. Yes, you need the AppleTV+ app to view AppleTV+ content but you do not need the AppleTV device.
2) The appleTV device gets a higher quality stream from AppleTV+ than any other device. I think the AppleTV stream quality from AppleTV+ is over 35Mbps. If you watch a lot of AppleTV+ content, you'll definitely want to consider getting an AppleTV device to get the highest quality experience. BUT I believe all the high quality content from AppleTV+ service is in Dolby Vision which your samsung TV can't do. So it might not matter for you.

TVOS16 was supposed to bring HDR10+ support to all appleTV 4k devices (not just the new one). There is no confirmation yet as nobody makes an HDR10+ app for the AppleTV yet.

I own the current Apple 4K TV. How fast does it need to be. It’s already 10xs faster than my Roku & Fire Cube

We still dont know if it did. There are claims from some press releases but nobody has yet to output HDR10+ from an existing AppleTV 4k. It will be great if they do as I watch a lot of Prime and it is annoying to switch over to the Roku Ultra just for Prime shows.
